Leah was at a talent show. She was backstage with a number of other people waiting for their turn to perform. Leah was going to sing. She had never sung in front of this many people before and she was getting nervous about it.

In the corner was an old banjo. Leah wondered who owned it and how long it had been there. She picked up the banjo and looked it over. As soon as she did, a surge of energy came out of the banjo and entered her.

Leah floated up several feet in the air yet no one noticed. Her surroundings became blurry and then dark. She found herself wearing a long sleeved white shirt underneath a short sleeved black shirt. Her pants were orange and her shoes were blue. On her head was an orange beanie with a skull on it that partially covered up a head of blue hair.

The blue hair was not the strangest part about it. Leah found herself in the body of a teenage boy, an animated one. The name Corey popped into her, or his, mind which he knew was his name. In his hands was the banjo picked up earlier.

Corey saw his surroundings reappear and come back into focus. Then he gently floated back down to the ground as if nothing had happened. A teenage boy about his size with black hair and glasses, a tall overweight teenage boy with black hair, and a short girl with red hair came over to join him. Each of them had instruments of their own. He knew they were his friends and their names were Kin, Kon, and Laney.

Together they formed the musical group known as Grojband. They were backstage preparing for the Battle of the Bands against their longtime rivals, the Newmans, who looked like gender-bent versions of them. No one in Grojband wanted to lose to the Newmans.

Grojband practiced their latest song, It was good but Corey did not think it was good enough. Then he noticed his sister, Trina, in the audience. There were a few minutes left until their performance. Corey still had plenty of time to provoke her and get some really good lyrics.
