During recess, Izumi noticed something strange about the middle school he attended. There was a while line dividing the playground in half. All the boys were on one side of the playground and all the girls were on the other side. The line only appeared during recess and he seemed to be the only one to notice it.

The girls were doing things like jumping rope, the boys were doing things like playing catch and neither group acknowledged the other. Whenever the other students got close to the line, they felt uneasy and returned to what they knew.

Izumi decided to do what no other student dared to do and crossed the line. He too felt uneasy but he was determined not to back away. As soon as he crossed the line, he was transformed into a girl. None of the other students noticed that she had changed.

She walked up to one of the popular girls and started talking to her, girl to girl. She responded accordingly and did not think anything unusual about it. Izumi was pleased that she had discovered a whole new world. After spending some time with the girls, she crossed the line once more and transformed back into a boy. The other students were still too afraid to even attempt to cross the line.

The next day, Izumi crossed the line once more. She took her turn jumping rope. Although she was not very good at it, it did not matter to her. She was just glad to be there. Izumi became so involved in what the girls were doing that the end of recess took her by surprise. The line disappeared and she found herself unable to change back.

Everyone at school, her parents, and everyone in her neighborhood treated her as if she had always been a girl. She had no idea why this happened but it made her even more curious about the line and why she was the only one willing to cross it.

The next day at recess, Izumi crossed the line and changed back. Eventually he would have to decide if he wanted to become a girl or remain a boy, but he had the rest of the school year to experiment with the line ... or at least he thought he did.
