Justin discovered a mysterious portal near his home. As he came closer to it, a wind started to blow. The closer he got to the portal, the stronger the wind became. He let his curiosity get the best of him and stepped too close to the portal. A strong gust of wind knocked him off balance and pulled him into the portal.

Once Justin entered the portal, he started to change. His skin turned a brownish color. His hair grew slightly longer and became black and wavy. Newly formed feminine features replaced his old masculine ones. Curves appeared on his body making him look like a teenage girl.

Justin was unable to see clearly. At that moment, a pair of glasses appeared in his hand. Instead of trying to understand what was happening, he simply put on the glasses. Once again he was able to see.

His clothing changed into a blue and white dress with many different objects embroidered on it and pink shoes. Blue earrings appeared on him and his hair became slightly longer. Underneath the outfit, his body changed leaving him, or her, fully female.

Suddenly, her skirt billowed out like a parachute and slowed down her fall. The name Mirabel came into her mind as the name Justin slowly faded away. As Mirabel, formerly Justin, descended to the ground she thought about her family. Everyone in the bloodline of her grandparents Pedro and Alma had magical powers except for her.

Her sister Luisa had super strength, her other sister Isabella could make plants grow, and her mother Juileta could heal. Her cousins and their mother also had various powers. Even her uncle Bruno could see into the future. That left her, plain ordinary Mirabel. She was surrounded by magic yet unable to use any of her own.

Mirabel landed gently on the ground. In front of her was her house. The front door had a golden door knob with the letter M on it. The area around it seemed to sparkle, compelling Mirabel to open the door. When she stepped inside, everything was dark. She held her breath as if not even wanting to disturb the air around her.

"Surprise!" yelled her relatives along with some of her neighbors.

It was not her birthday or any well known holiday. It was a surprise party just for her. They wanted to let her know she was appreciated simply for being there. It was something Mirabel needed to remember as well. More important than the gift itself was the person behind it.

Mirabel realized there was something she could do. Some of the kids present did not know much about her family. It was the perfect opportunity for her. She twirled around in her skirt as she introduced the kids to her family through song and dance.
