Words Below:
Ryan and his family went to the beach. It was during spring tide when strong rip currents occurred but Ryan was not concerned about it. He swam deep into the ocean just because he could. Everyone was fine until he tried to swim back. That was when he discovered the currents were faster than his top swimming speed. He was being pulled out into deeper water.
Through trial and error, Ryan discovered that if he went underwater he could swim under the current. By doing this over and over again he was making slow and steady progress but he was getting tired. Exhaustion set in and his progress slowed and then stopped. He was being pulled back out to sea.
Ryan knew it was unlikely he would be rescued. If he were a fish he might have a chance but as it was he was probably doomed. That was when the changes began. He became much smaller than he was before. His skin turned a bright orange.
Fins appeared on his body. His arms and legs were pulled into his body as his entire body took on the shape of a fish. White stripes with black outlines formed on his otherwise completely orange body. A tail formed behind him allowed him to better move through the ocean. Finally his lungs changed into gills enabling him to breathe underwater. He was no longer in immediate danger.
The one formerly known as Ryan knew his name was Nemo. He was on his way to school when he became separated from his family. He needed to find them but he had no idea how to do it. His family and friends would not give up on him. Eventually they would find Nemo and he would get his chance to join a school of fish.
His immediate concern was escaping the current which was pulling him away from his home and family. As Nemo attempted to swim against the current, he noticed one of his fins was damaged. He remembered this occurred around the time he hatched. Even with two properly working fins, it would be difficult to escape the current. As it was, his situation seemed hopeless.
Suddenly a giant sea scooped him up as he swam past.
"Whoa!" exclaimed the sea turtle. "This current is too dangerous for someone your size. You should not be here by yourself."
"I did not mean to be here," said Nemo. "I got pulled into the current by accident. I just want to leave."
"Hang on," commanded the sea turtle. "Your exit is right over there."
When he pointed it out, Nemo noticed a smaller current leading away from the main one. It was small enough to allow him to escape. The sea turtle swam right next to the exit as he called it and Nemo entered the smaller current. From there he just needed to swim back to his family.
When he got back his father and the friends from his school were there to greet him. They swarmed around him and asked him many questions at once. Nemo said he was alright and told them to calm down before beginning his story. He had quite a story to tell.
