Words Below:
It was a cold, snowy, and windy night in January. Alfred clutched his bag of groceries tightly as he walked down what was normally a busy sidewalk in the middle of the city. Most people had enough sense to be indoors, but he had forgotten to get food so he had to be out there. The wind blew off the hood of his coat. He quickly pulled it back on and pulled the strings tighter. He just hoped the wind did not blow him out into the street at the same time a car was coming that could not see him.
On one side of Alfred was the street with cars still driving past although slowly. On the other side of him was supposed to be the apartment building where he lived. Instead he found a long brick wall with a single door in the distance. Written on the door "Enter for something different." Since it was a cold night and he had no idea where his apartment building had gone he thought he had nothing to lose by entering. He opened the door and went inside.
Alfred a flood of colors. Some of them should not even exist. For a while all he could see were the colors. He could not even see his hands when he put them directly in front of his face.
Gradually the colors faded and he, or she, could see her new surroundings. Instead of being a cold, snowy, and windy night, it was a hot, calm, and sunny day, instead of being male she had become female, instead of wearing a heavy winter coat she was wearing a bikini, and instead of being in a crowded city she was at the beach far away from everyone else. She had to admit it was indeed something different. The name Astrid popped into her head replacing her old name which just faded away.
A small cottage was nearby which contained food and shelter. Astrid went inside as if the place was hers without really thinking otherwise. She opened the closet in her room and got out a flamingo float. It was the perfect object for her to relax in the water.
Looking down the coast, Astrid saw that the nearest house was about a quarter mile away. No one would come her way unless they specifically wanted to see her. That was fine with her. She had had enough of the city, enough of the winter, and enough of old life. Something different was what she wanted and that was exactly what she had received.
