Zachary was pleasantly surprised when he received an invitation for not only free admission to the carnival but also all the candy he could eat for no additional charge. Obviously he would still buy regular food and probably some souvenirs, but free admission and free candy left him with more money to spend. It was a sweet deal!

Since Zachary was an adult, he drove to the carnival early in the morning and waited for it to open. That way he could be there as long as possible. He started with the candy. It tasted really sweet, more sweet than regular candy. It made him want more.

Zachary left the store with a big bag containing pieces of many different kinds of candy. As he left the store, he noticed his clothing was a little too big. He guessed it was because he lost weight which just meant more room for candy.

Actually, it was because with every piece of candy he ate he became a few years younger. It was too gradual for anyone to casually observe but Zachary no longer looked like the person who entered the carnival in the first place. The candy made him thirsty so he bought something to drink. The drink gradually changed his gender making him even smaller.

At that point he, or she, realized his clothing no longer fit. She went into one of the shops and bought a fancy Japanese outfit. The shopkeeper called her Zoey, which she accepted as her name without question. The name just sounded right.

Instead of money, the shopkeeper gave her the outfit in exchange for her old clothes. Zoey accepted. The clothes did not fit her anyway so it was good to be rid of them. Her new outfit seemed a bit tight but after finishing her candy she found it quite comfortable.

Suddenly Zoey panicked. She was at the carnival all by herself and had no way of getting home. She cried. Her mother and father, at least she thought it was her mother and father, came over to comfort her. Her father lifted her into the air while her mother gave her a candy apple. They did their best to comfort her and got her to stop crying.

Zoey rode on the merry-go-round, went through the haunted house, and got a plaster copy of her hand. By the time the day was over, she was exhausted. When they got to the car, she thought it looked different somehow but did not think much about it. She was just glad to be going home.
