For the final round, all remaining contestants had to sing a brand new song. This song was made specifically for Virtual Life and would be sung by the winner in front of a live audience. As with the previous rounds, Michael was using his virtual avatar, Michelle. Even though he would have a far better chance of winning as Michael, that was not what he wanted to do. He had been using Michelle the entire time and he was in it for the long hall.

Through Michelle, he looked at the virtual judges sitting down at a table in front of him. Everything had to be done in character so he introduced himself as Michelle and described some of the things he liked to do as Michelle. A few things between Michael and Michelle were different, but many of the things were the same. Thinking about it, he thought some of the contestants would have more difficulty starting in character.

When the judges were done with their questions, the room darkened except for a spotlight that was entirely on Michelle. He began to sing but before he could even finish the first verse, a beast appeared. Thinking fast, he realized part of a contest had to do with facing fears. This must be the fear the AI had selected for him.

The virtual room he had been in disappeared and even the judges disappeared leaving him as Michelle underneath a virtual sky with the beast. Slowly he approached the beast. As he got closer, he saw the eyes of the beast had a friendly nature to them. Running away did not seem like a wise thing to do.

Instead he moved closer and used his virtual hands to touch the face of the beast. The beast seemed oddly familiar. Over time he became aware the beast was just the AI doing an imitation of ... Michael. Somehow, even through a virtual avatar of the opposite gender, the AI was able to tell what Michelle most feared.

Without saying a word, Michael as Michelle danced with the best, an AI pretending to be Michael. He did his best to put his fears and general confusion about the situation aside and just relax. The fear of Michelle was the fear of Michael and he was facing it. What could have been a night of virtual terror was instead a dance under the virtual stars.

Eventually, he returned to the judges as Michelle and finished the song. Michael did not win the Virtual Life contest with Michelle. He did not even come close to winning. This was more or less what he expected. However, he did like his consolation prize. Michelle had a new AI companion for new and interesting virtual adventures.
