Waking, her senses snapped to immediate attention something was different.
‘Oh good, your awake.’ A voice off to her right sounded. ‘How are you feeling?’

Mayko blinked and drew in a deep breath. The air here was different, sterilized, clean, and with a touch of bleach that lingered in the air. That told her several things, a rescue had come though she could not tell by who, that was the next great question. Who, to the best of her knowledge no one had activated the emergency beacon.

Clearing her throat she tried to speak, the words came out in a coughing fit and it took her several breaths before she could form words again.

‘Bad.’ She managed. ‘Whe-‘ her words broke off again in another attack.

‘Easy, easy there.’ The soft voice, almost too soft with a lack of emotion. Synthetic then. Brow furrowing she tried to push the voice away. Her arms remained firmly behind her, something hard and sticky held her in place. Flexing her joints she tested her joints one at a time, whatever held her began above her elbows and continued down to her wrists. Finger stroking her bonds she touched the material, hard and smooth on one side, sticky on the other: Tape then.

‘Doctor…Why am I restrained?’

‘Ah,’ The voice was moving around her, followed by an electronic chirping noise and the sound of fluid metal movement. ‘The troopers that brought you in were, concerned, for your wellbeing.’

Wriggling against her bonds, now more concerned than before.

‘There is no ne-‘

The slow beeping noise became a sharp squeal that ended in a chirp.

‘Interesting.’ The synthetic ignored her and walked away.

‘What?’

‘Sir, yes. We have the sample we need. The specimen is intact.’

‘Good.’ A third voice echoed over the com. ‘Very good.’
