Description
‘At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last, we will have our revenge.’ – Darth MaulA long time ago, in a state far far way.
I just remembered this old Star Wars RP I was involved in, I had joined a little later than the rest, and played a mostly passive roll. The party mostly being made up of Jedi knights, a bounty hunter, sort of good guy that the party had to keep in line, and a protocol droid. And then there was me, the tech based lore master. I had no real discernable skills in combat, but was very lore heavy, my excuse being I was researching the Jedi and Sith alike with special permission from the council.
The Jedi mean while were off doing heroic quests, fighting off rouge pirates, slavers, and hunting down the occasional dark Jedi while I slowly began to upgrade the ship, and their respected equipment. As the sessions progressed, I noted just how much the party started to rely on my technological innovations, and with each improvement, be it only a little at a time, they took to favoring my inventions. Armor upgrades here, an improvement to increase damage to your lightsaber there, a temporary shield emitter belt, ext.
By the height of the campaign, the party was bringing me all kinds of lore from around the galaxy, both Jedi and Sith alike in exchange for the latest and greatest gizmo I had developed. All the while there had been a progressively looming threat, and hints from the GM, that there was a Sith lord on the rise and had heard about our group. This Sith then began doing everything possible to make our lives difficult, laying traps, sending bounty hunters, and even a small army after us. After much digging it was revealed that the Sith lords name was, Darth Kartheus, and so my character was dispatched to the Jedi temple to try and dig up any information on this dark lord.
While on planet, one of the capital ships malfunctioned, and crashed into the surface, killing everyone, the GM, let me get a single transition out to the party before all communication was knocked out system wide.
‘Zzzzt-ith lord! *Crackle* Betrayed! Zzzzzzztt…’
The party trying to make sense of this, was able to track the partial encoded data package to a small forest moon on the outlaying systems. Before they made planet fall, the ever loyal protocol droid did reveal to them that in my last will and testament, I had left for each of them several prototype upgrades in my cabin. Ever eager for any kind of edge, they suited up with the equipment and took the ships shuttle down to the quadrants, only to be shocked to find a clearing with the Sith Lord waiting for them.
Promising vengeance, and swearing that I had not died in vain, they confronted the Sith, only to have him reveal himself, as me.
There was much, ‘No! It can’t be!’ and other such rebuttals, that this was all some kind of joke. It was here that I got to reveal the true scope of my plan, carefully set up between the GM and myself. How I had staged my own death, and now, was going to rid the galaxy of the ‘Elite Jedi Strike Team.’ Sending a message to the order once and for all. And Battle ensued.
What really made this battle so fun, was that as the Final Boss, I was not super powered with an ungodly amount of hit points; but that having designed so much of the team’s armor and weapons that they had come to rely on, that I could counter act each of them. Having built them, I knew their weaknesses, their preferred strengths, and had taken the time following my ‘Death’ to assemble an arsenal of counter measurements that made me excruciatingly difficult to kill. Pure Cortosis ridges built over Cortosis weave heavy plate armor, sonic dampeners, ballistic jammers and a small arsenal of eye bots with paralytic stun bolts.
In the end I was defeated, and Darth Kartheus was struck down, the light side triumphed. However, it was all well worth it, and the party agreed too, that this had been one of the most memorable boss battles they had encountered, though they were very skeptical of any character I created ever sense. Especially the benign ones.
C.S.Notes: I hoped you enjoyed this little story, I tell it as reliving the tale always makes me smile, and I could do with some positive feelings about now as I am feeling a little put out, namely due to running out of time for Inktober, alas and finding it difficult to set up a payment system to sell art online. Anyways, feeling better now.
Happy Halloween!

Though if a player comes up with tech, I come up with my own strategies and have backups. After all, even a PC might not be totally dependable (as bad as that sounds).

Seductive is the dark side. So easy to fall into its embrace.
The dark never dies.
It returns to the source. Waiting for the next one to fall from the light.
Light and dark however need each other.
One cannot exist without the other.
There must be a balance.
There can cannot be good without evil so it’s good to be evil sometimes.

Lol, and then there are people like me: those who sing in the elevator - for the sake of the light side.
I won't lie, I would be a Sith.

Most of us would be Sith..........with a light side.😉
Lol.....Just in the elevator? I find myself humming along to a song in my head while walking the office customer lobby.
A strange mix ranging from Harry Nilsson to Led Zeppelin.
iTunes had the Harry Nilsson full RCA collection on sale. 304 songs. Under 5 dollars US.
Aerial Ballet, Schmilsson, Pandemonium Shadow Show and others. Lost classics from my younger days. 😊

Nice find. I keep my eyes open, as one never knows what is going to crop up. Just don't sing to loud or start rocking out to the music, that is best kept to cars where people can watch from afar.

Yes...the dark side is more powerful than most ppl realize. Some feel that it is a path that can lead to power that is considered...unnatural.
