Description
‘Are you sure you want to do this?’ The gym employee asked, careful to keep his tone neutral.
He wanted to add more, but she could tell he was biting his tongue as to not say something she would be offended by. The other gyms had not been so professional.
‘Maybe you would like to try the boldering wall first.’
‘This is a very physically intense sport.’
One had even openly asked her if she had a prosthetic she intended to use.
Narrowing her eye she turned to face the employee, fixing him with the full intensity of her gaze.
‘Yes, I am quite certain.’ She retorted, matching his same even tone. ‘Now, if you would walk me through how the harness works?’

Looking like she had other less pleasant things she wanted to do to them, Jay gives you an almost impressive nod before motioning back to the wall.
Behind her the professors make their rounds, making small corrections here and there as they do.
One, coming up behind Jay, pauses before looking up at you, and then back to her.
Doing her best to not yell something that will not get her any help, Jay, just looks up at the instructor.
'Yes?'
'Nothing, just observing your, technique. How are you holding up, up there?' She calls up to you.

Up and over!
She has the will, now all she really struggles with is getting other people to let her try.

That many times is the hard part.
Help only when you see a problem.
Offer.
Step aside if they refuse.
Never be condescending.

She just wants to climb, and because she only has one arm she gets a lot of flack.

Watching your hands work the figure eight knot holding her in, Scar gives the rope an experimental tug before going through the process of checking her harness to make sure she is still clipped in, and, smiling turns and asks. 'Belay on?'

Smiling as she makes to grab the first wrung with her good arm. 'Your supposed to say Belay on.' Scar tissue flexing as she pulls her tiny body up, she plants both her feet on the plastic rocks. The rope attached to her harness going slack as she begins to climb.

Smiling at his open compliment, Jay planted her feet, extending upwards as she pressed her body against the wall. Freeing her grip from the wall her heart skipped, and she found her good arm shooting up to grab the nearest rock.
Heart thudding away in her chest, she chanced a look behind her, only to realize she had not even climbed more than a few feet from the ground.
'Take!' She called, ininclining her head to the slack rope. 'Keep your eyes on the rope.'
She added, still a litte nervous as she hung to the wall. Though, as she pulled herself up, she found herself raising her tail for the first time in a long while.

Years ago, a man who lost his legs pulled himself up Half Dome in Yosemite with pullies and ropes. Protestors complained it made light of other people's disabilities.
