‘Hello Mom, it’s been a while, I know.’ Lindsey’s eyes cast downwards. ‘I know that, you wouldn’t approve of my carrier choice, especially after what Dad…I just hope that one day, you’ll be proud of me. I, I love you.’

‘Officer…Hopps? As in The Judy Hopps?’ The tiger loomed over her, green eyes boring down into her very being. Somehow, that made her back straiten, defiance had always ran strong in her mother’s side of the family.

‘No, I’m not Judy. My name is Lindsey Hopps.’ She gritted her teeth. ‘Judy Hopps was my mother.’

A bit taken aback, by her sharp response the tiger took a step back, green eyes not leaving her.

‘Feisty.’ The tiger muttered under his breath, giving the bunny before him a measure of respect. ‘Well, welcome to Savanna square. You’ll be working with me for now.’

‘Great.’ Lindsey frowned, her displeasure saturating the air around her, and not escaping the notice of her new partner who whirled on her in short order.

‘Look Bunny. You brought this on yourself.’ The tiger jabbed a clawed finger into her chest, leaving a dent in the plastoid body armor. ‘If you hadn’t –‘

‘Don’t start! I was-‘

‘A prominent officer, you could have gone places. But then you just had to let your personal feelings get in the way, and now you’re on parole until a leading officer declares otherwise. That being me.’

‘If this is about the…the…’ Lindsey’s eyes dropped, unable to meet the tigers before her. ‘…It…was a mistake.’

‘Damn right it was.’ The tiger snarled. ‘Now shut up and get in the car. We’re going to make the circuit, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll see if I can pull your carrier out of the toilet.’

Sometime during the last minute Lindsey’s stiff back had broken and her shoulders had slumped.

‘Yes sir.’

Without further word she got in the car and began the first day in her new carrier.
