‘That’s it! You are going to bed. Now.’
‘I see no need for sleep at the moment, and besides, there is still more work that needs to be done.’

‘Look at you, you’re a mess!’ Mina growled following her employer down the hall to the cluttered office he had been residing in for the last several weeks. ‘This place is a mess!’

‘It is just a passing discord.’ The shark rumbled, his lumbering gate slow as he wove through the piles of paperwork and overflowing clutter that had taken over the room. ‘Nothing to worry about my dear.’

‘I worry.’

‘I don’t.’

Heaving himself into the chair behind his desk, the figure almost melted into the padding drawing out the shadows of the dim room to swallow his features.

Folding her arms over her chest, Mina planted herself before him refusing to move. And for a long drawn out breath there was silence between them. She was almost sure he had fallen asleep and was about to vault the desk when he spoke in a quieter voice.

‘Your uniform was not to your liking I take it?’

Scowling, she knew he was deliberately changing the subject on her but had become familiar enough to know that a direct assault would not yield the results she wanted. Instead, she shifted her weight to one leg, refusing to uncross her arms, exposing her sleeveless black markings exposed.

‘And?’

‘It is a tad, odd for office attire.’ The shark mused though she could tell his heart was not truly in the conversation.

‘Your taste in fashion seems to be rooted in the wrong century.’ Mina retorted hotly, her hands moving down to smooth the fabric of her shirt to her leggings. ‘How Jennevien puts up with it is beyond me.’

‘Nor Jennevien, Amber, or Sirse complained.’

Ears folding back, Mina’s eyes narrowed to slits.

‘I am, not, Sirse.’ Spitting the words out like a poisonous dart, her hands balling into fists.

‘Indeed. You are not.’

‘Mr. Shark. Go. To. Bed.’ She bit out the words, tiring of the back and forth. She swore he had to be part troll he was so stubborn, and blunt. ‘Or I will hurt you.’

That got his attention, she could see it in the subtle shift in his posture, and she let her gaze flick to a pile of papers on his desk. Reaching out she took hold of a single sheet near the base of the pile and locked her gaze on the beady black orbs of her employer.

‘You wouldn’t.’

‘Try me.’

The stand off lasted almost three heartbeats, and in that time Mina swore she had run a marathon with how fast her heart was racing. Slowly, her employer seemed to resign to her demand.

‘Fine. Four hours.’

‘Eight.’

‘Six.’

‘Seven and if I see you out of bed your office will be ground zero before your feet touch the floor.’

A faint flicker of a smile touched her employers lips, or, maybe it was just the shadows playing over his features as he moved to stand.

As he moved ponderously across the room, the shark stopped in the archway, casting one last look over his shoulder before adding.

‘I am glad you are settling in Ms. Sinclair.’

‘Your taste in fashion seems to be rooted in the wrong century.’ Mina retorted hotly, her hands moving down to smooth the fabric of her shirt to her leggings. ‘How Jennevien puts up with it is beyond me.’

‘Nor Jennevien, Amber, or Sirse complained.’

Ears folding back, Mina’s eyes narrowed to slits.

‘I am, not, Sirse.’ Spitting the words out like a poisonous dart, her hands balling into fists.

‘Indeed. You are not.’

‘Mr. Shark. Go. To. Bed.’ She bit out the words, tiring of the back and forth. She swore he had to be part troll he was so stubborn, and blunt. ‘Or I will hurt you.’

That got his attention, she could see it in the subtle shift in his posture, and she let her gaze flick to a pile of papers on his desk. Reaching out she took hold of a single sheet near the base of the pile and locked her gaze on the beady black orbs of her employer.

‘You wouldn’t.’

‘Try me.’

The stand off lasted almost three heartbeats, and in that time Mina swore she had run a marathon with how fast her heart was racing. Slowly, her employer seemed to resign to her demand.

‘Fine. Four hours.’

‘Eight.’

‘Six.’

‘Seven and if I see you out of bed your office will be ground zero before your feet touch the floor.’
