She took a half step back, and then another until her back came up against the bulkhead. There, there was no pain. Just a dull numbness spreading through her chest and the hint of burnt fabric.

Her hand came up, brushing the edges of the burn, she hadn’t even heard the phaser discharge. But she had seen his face, the one who had shot her. Over the screeching of the phaser pistols, the low buzz of the type two returning their energy beams.

The plan, they were supposed to be using the stun setting. Then, why, why, was her uniform charring?

It was getting hard to breath. Her legs were shifting, collapsing under her as she slid down to the deck, there – it was, slow burning from inside.

There was a flower, blooming over her uniform. A red one streaking down her chest.
