Description ‘Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.’ The man grumbled as he walked up the winding path.

The signs said it all, depicting horrible but cartoonish versions of humans being decapitated, devoured, or impaled on giant claws. There were also a smattering of written ones too: ‘Keep out!’ ‘Stay Back!’ ‘Warning: Deathclaws!’ and such.

Still, he had yet to see any of these mythical beasts, terrors to behold taller than any man, capable of taking the head off a ranger in full power armor. And almost as fowl tempered as Sirse, if half the rumors were true.

Hoping the fox was watching, he turned to the distant horizon and stabbed his index finger into the air.

‘Stupid.’ The man grumbled, as he rounded the final corner, coming across the dwelling at the end of the line. It was a rundown hobble of banged together scrap metal, rusted and patched a hundred times over just like all the other structures out here in the wasteland.

Approaching, he loosed the sequoia in its holster. Taking stock of the shack, two oddities jumped out immediately, the first, the oversized front door that did little to settle his nerves. And second, the small bell ringer that had been placed on a pedestal with great care residing in the center of the path.

For a long time he simply stared at the bell.

‘Stupid.’ He muttered, raising his bandaged hand. ‘Really, really stupid.’

He gave it a tap, sending a sharp tinging sound that seemed to echo around the rocks.

Then the front door exploded outwards. A monstrous head, flanked with curving horns, and a mouth full of fangs protruded outwards. Hands bigger with claws like spears spilled out coming to rest on the lower lip as the beast’s eyes narrowed to slits.

‘Go away.’ The monster grumbled. ‘Cant you read the sign?’

‘…’

‘What are you deaf?’ The deathclaw growled, the very air reverberating around it. ‘Clearly you are not blind – so you can: Read. The. Sign.’

Jabbing a claw to a tiny white placard that hung on the door:

Business hours:

Monday – Friday: 9:00 -5:00

Saturday By Appointment Only

No Admission on Sunday – though it out!

Managing to find his voice, the man retrieved his hat, brushed the dust off of it, and returned it to his head.

‘Mr. Shark, I have a three o’clock appointment.’

The deathclaw’s eyes narrowed, before it grunted, blowing out a long exasperated breath. ‘Your early.’

And muttering something about not enough caps in the Mojave the creature retreated, flicking the door open with a casual smack of its tail.

C.S. Notes: Fun little fact, for those of you who played the original Fallout game, you can find in Vault 13 a group of Talking Deathclaws, that are not only sentient, but very well spoken. Demonstrating cognitive abilities that rival that of a human. And what better calling for a deathclaw than to be a wasteland psychologist.

I think I can crank out a few more, I know I did have a plan set up for this one, I just need to take the time to implement it now.

Shame you have to destroy it in the game. It could’ve changed a lot of things and the reputation that Deathclaws have.

Lol! Trust me, being one of those tall people does have its disadvantages. Or at least according to Brendon, a good friend of mine who stands over six feet tall. He has to duck through doorways for the sake of his head. ;D

Good morning, and thank you - Death claws are pretty cool creatures. So long as they are not leaping out at you and trying to claw you to death.

Oops, It has been to long. I need to replay those old games. Thank you, I always enjoyed the idea of the death claws, they were horrifyingly cool.

Sadly the creators say they immediately regretted it and left out a way to save them from the enclave. Get the fallout 2 restoration mod and there is a way to save them.

I will have to hunt that one down - it would be a shame to leave the deathclaws to such a fate. T.T

it is. the DO2 restoration is pretty easy to find and install, and it adds in a bunch of cut content that was supposed to be in the game but was cut to get the game released, including content referenced in the base game like your first companion's kidnapped sister

😁That you did.

Exploring Metro Exodus.
Crazy long game!
Most of it still undiscovered.
Been so far radical factions, cannibals, and now tribal slavers.
Side shows of sand zombies and other nasty ammo consuming beasts including nasty dogs and one rattlesnake. The latter ran into inadvertently with a nasty bite requiring consuming medical supplies.
Constantly searching for supplies to build with.
Constantly questioning do I kill, knockout, or bypass.
But damn this game is SO fun!!

I believe it, it sounds like a blast - (Still saving funds for the next two weeks about) So many creatures out there, and so many different environments. I have yet to get to play, but took some time to look at game footage, it was amazing looking.

Rattlesnakes, in Russia, what is the world coming too?

Nothing good that is for sure, as anything the forces you to use precious medical supplies is a problem. Now, from a game perspective, is it possible to get to 'rich'? Say, have to much in game money in the form of bullets, medical, ext. I have found that this is the case in many open world games. Fallout being my go to example, as after a lot of exploring you can drop the equivalent of over a hundred thousand in caps and not even realize it.

Yes, that happened, I left it in a trash can and did not even realize I had. The funny thing was at this point I have so much loot that it did not matter. One a single circuit of the merchants I was able to turn about fifty thousand in just selling stuff.

Sadly when you get to this point some of the struggle for survival goes out the window.

Twenty years after the war the world was changed.

Side effects of Mutually Assured Destruction.

You can amass quite a lot of gear and supplies.
And use it all up pretty quick leaving yourself greatly under gunned resorting to banging heads with mele blows.
Now this on regular play where stuff is more plentiful over survival mode where stuff is less.
I learned you build your load outs of ammo and such out if the supplies you have gathered. So good prepping is essential to being prepared for fights but you can use stealth, reusable recoverable things like arrows or knives, even running away, and medical health will return over time as long as you get out of the damage.
I have not seen a award for having the most but there are awards for spending so much.
I have noticed you can play non-stop but the character seems to get slower and less efficient due to fatigue. Also day and night presents different problems. Human foes are more active daytime where the monsters come out at night......mostly.😏
So this determines how you may challenge a mission.
Stealthy night......monsters anticipated but less issues with humans or daylight with better chance of getting in a fight with humans and less monsters.
Some missions require you to not kill locals to get good moral points to get the “good” ending. However bad folks, monsters are fair game. Just remember noises draw.........unwanted things.🤔

Yes that snake surprised the crap out of me. I saw it but did not think it was dangerous just a prop unless disturbed.. Soon as I went to the supplies along the wall it struck making me jump!! I popped it with my weapon then had to shove three med shots to stop the dying! I was smart bringing 5 (max).

My most enjoyable mission was The Ark. An underground survival military shelter promising survival and help but full of cannibal Soviets needing extreme prejudice actions. Funniest actions in the game so far. Leaping out, screaming, rolling on the floor.......with an axe.....then charging me........ a soldier with a 12 ga Saiga and a 25 round drum.
Huge body count......but they keep coming!

Its a good purchase.😎
