Description
how to use the program Manga Studio EX. 3.0Uh... Toning is easy with this program if you know how to get around it.
i imagine 4.0 is not that different. if i upgrade it i'll let you know. but 3.0 works just fine.
try it, but if you have any questions just ask.

This is an amazing and helpful tutorial, thank you so much! ; w ;
Your writing's really neat, it reminds me of how Japanese people write romaji! o:

Hello!
Thanks for the awesome tutorial! It's the best Manga Studio tut I've seen so far!
I'm just getting started with the program and I have a question though: How do you take the page number off? Or if you can't, how to at least make it invisible?

hm, I've personally never had that problem, I'm certain it's in the export and or print area though. Or if you just make a single page instead of a story chapter in the program.
if you're exporting the image, there's a check box in the dialogue box that says something like include page number, don't check that. otherwise I have to find it. But I think it's all in the page setup if anything. if you don't find it, I'll try to find it one of these days and tell you.

how does the panel cutter work? O_o i guess you can't cut panels with it? or...? hrm. I'm dragging the tool across but it won't make the panel split.

first you have to get a panel layer, right click "ruler" on your layer window, then select panel ruler layer. and then you can cut the panels using the panel cutter. sorry for the late reply. hope it helped.

Can you erase certain parts of the boxes like if you had your image come outside the box a bit? Man that sounds simple to put together and all but so much work...

CodenameParanormal In reply to sockstealingnome [2010-05-04 17:13:34 +0000 UTC]
yes you can. if you merge your panel layer (one with the panel you want to erase) with a new raster layer, then it becomes a raster layer and you can erase it. I usually just merge all of the panels together, that'll do it too. But some people prefer the panel feature.

Thank you very much for this But do you think that I can do this also in Manga Studio demo?
Or where I can download Manga Studio EX? Sorry to bother you.

Hmm, I've never used the demo before and I'm not sure how to download it except for a free trial. [link]
The price is about 300 USD, but I got mine for 90 USD from an education site, but I'm not sure if the discount is extended to outside of USA. [link]
hope that helps.

This is so helpful!! Tank you so much for posting this :-D
I have a couple of questions:
-How did you get your word-bubbles?
-How do you go about choosing screen tones? I never know what dot size to use or if to just use a flat gray or what.

CodenameParanormal In reply to BakaChan53 [2010-03-12 05:30:34 +0000 UTC]
Glad it helped
The bubbles are made from the shape tool. I think there is another way of making it but there's really no need. you can adjust the text with the text tool.
When choosing the screen tone, the larger the number (like "65L" )the more dots per inch sorta speak. The smaller the number then fewer dots. Usually you want the character's faces to be smooth, so choose a larger number. (i usually use between 60-75L depending on the box size, seems to work great. anything greater than a 75L on a page would make it look like a complete gray scale, it's over kill for most things you want to depict unless you want it in completely gray, then pick the largest number.) The percentages on the tones are the percentages of how "black" it is. i.e. 50% would be half black, etc.
And when you're depicting something with a rough surface, you want to use a smaller L size so it seems very rough and harsh with all the visible dots. Also as a mood changer, usually bigger and lesser dots with the smaller number "L" sizes would give a scene a funny feeling, or a "dumbfounded" look.
If you want to make a standard manga-like image, don't use anything larger than a 70 or 75L, because it's very hard to balance the rough look of the bachground and the overly smooth characters. Make sense? hope I explained it for you.

omg !
I thank you very much for this manga studio guide !
I know most of it but I just can't seem to handle it in a good way like you XD ..
I have bunch of questions for you hope you don't mind !
first ..
umm I don't know if this is doable in Manga studio or not .. but .. can we adjust the size of the "lines" of the panels ..?
they look so awesome here in your style .. but when I draw with MS it looks kinda huge compared to my style XD
I don't know if you got my question or not I suck at asking OTL"
ok my second question is not about the program ..
it's about this so freakin' awesome page <333 !!
omg Fang I seriously fall in love with him now <3
he's so cool !
are those two what I think they're or is it just my twisted imagination XD ?
the other guy looks too good to be a one-time-to-appear character !

CodenameParanormal In reply to SHOgxb13 [2010-03-12 02:48:40 +0000 UTC]
You're welcome, well I can't seem to get it less thick either... what I do is just use the line tool over it and delete the panel haha... yeah.
and Fang, or Noir, he's Dragon's best friend. and the other guy is Ian. and they don't really have a thing, they just look like they do for a while, then you find out Ian and Dragon is in love. XD the relationship between these two are complicated. XD if you want to know u can note me.
