Haha they really put me through the ringer, mentally and financially haha! I was starting to doubt that I actually wanted to pursue art when I was at Parsons but now leaves the adventure of getting a job. I hope things work out and soon~

Oh definitely, and good luck. But you know in the mean time, you can try making some freelancing money on Freelancer.com. I just tried it recently. Bit on what you can do, and you will eventually get some work. I've landed on an ongoing client, and it's been fun. It'll be a fun side thing to do and a bit of extra cash. Looking for a job in the art industry is hard. One of the many reasons I didn't pursue art. But I think you'll do well, as long as you don't give up.

After I graduated 3 years ago, I questioned the same thing, am I ready? I certainly didn't know if I was or not, I didn't feel ready... It's one thing to do problems out of a text book, another to do it at work... but ready or not, you'll have to be in it.

It'll work out. I want to tell you it's not hard, but I have no idea. I didn't take on an art major... I took on a major that'll grant me a many job offers, higher pay, and good future outlooks. I have no idea what it's like to try to find a job with a degree in the arts. But I work at an arts university now, and most of our students find jobs in their fields. They might not be high paying at first, but you work your way up.

The key is to submit as many resumes as possible. Design your resume, this is very important, especially for artists. When we hire people most resumes get thrown out just because they're wordy and heavy and no one wants to read them. It's reality. Have a good portfolio, and last but not least, look in a wider range of places. You might have to relocate, especially for an artist... Try making your resume and cover letter containing key words from the job posting, tailor your resume and cover letter to each submission. Because many companies just use keyword searches. if yours doesn't have the words they're looking for, the program just filters it out, no one will even get to see it. So... Good luck out there, and try to find a job soon, after 6 months of graduation, it's statistically harder to find a job in the field anymore...

Yeah I took a very risky path especially for a girl in poverty you'd think I'd make better school choices haha. I feel like there's something out there for me in the direction that I think I want to go, even though I'm not sure where exactly that is. I have a designed resume and I'd love if you could go over it sometime. I think not working in retail ever is really denting me from getting regular jobs though ;o;.

My website is also being worked on and I'm thinking of scrapping almost all of my drawings because I know black and white work will never really be appreciated. Im trying to find a way to make my work...have color with out selling out who I am and what I like to do. Its quite tough and honestly it sucks bad but Idk if I really have a choice in the matter anymore.

Why is it harder to get a job 6 months after? =[

It's hard after 6 months because employers think it's been a long time since you've graduated and you've not found a position yet, there must be something unattractive or wrong about you as a person or as a professional. It gives you a negative impact. I have a friend, with a degree in Aerospace Engineering, from a pretty great, private school for it, too, who's a girls, and smart. Unfortunately didn't even so much as get an interview after 5-6 months of graduation... now I think she's pretty much given up on finding a position in her field...

I'd be happy to look at your resume and give you feed back on it. Did you just started looking for a job? Or did you start before you graduated? If you didn't start that soon, you should be submitting your resume everywhere right now. I was looking for a job during my last semester in college, pretty much landed most interviews during the semester, and was hired 3 weeks after graduation. Do not wait too long, and do not be picky about it either, anything goes at this point. and if you don't find anything after 2- 3 months... you need to expand your search for a wider area, places you CAN go, anywhere. NYC has a lot of opportunities, but also massive competition. Do things that sets you apart from others. Sorta like getting into a character, think about things to draw attention to yourself.

Aye that makes me very nervous really. Do you have a skype of some sort? I think IMing is more easier than me spamming your deviantart post with questions haha~

I really love the texture you put in his jacket.  Makes it quite realistic.

Thank you! <3 Yeah, I played around with the texture for a while, it's several different PS filters layered together. I am generally against using costume brushes and textures, I feel like you could create the same effect with just the tools available in the default settings, with a little creativity.

Ahhhh yes.  True. I need to stop being scared of Photoshop and just do it bruh.  I've only used it to color a handful of times, and it's just such a learning curve since I only use SAI.

I think it really doesn't matter what program you use, as long as you find a way you're comfortable with doing things. I hear great things about Sai, I've never used it but I'm sure it does the job as well.
