In the age of Expanding Space, vintage usually refers to the 21st - 23rd Century stuff. As such, the ASSF-1880B is considered a vintage starfighter, as it carries the aesthetics and functionality of aerospace fighters of that era.

Several such designs are still in use across the colony space, as - even though antigravitics have rendered wing use generally obsolete - winged vehicles still dominate the scene on planets with Earth-like armospheric conditions where speed is of essence. Of course, the modern "jet" is no longer a jet in real - for example ASSF-1880B incorporates state-of-the-art twin-photonic engines that punch it to speeds several times greater than vintage jet engines (hence the sharper nose).

Also, the tri-set of main wings may be off-putting for vintage purists - a feature that makes sense only when the craft is designed to be deployed from carriers in orbit.

The sample in the image carries only its own gatling laser mounted on the vertical fin. It supports up to four more weapons to be installed on wingtips.
