Description Model: The Boedecker
Builder: Augentide Shipyards
Affiliation: Frontier Baronies

There was no hope when the Boedecker went against the approaching World Eater formation, a single gunboat vs an entire array of cybernetic assimilators - crazy!

Lord Captain Alexander Sigismund of the Frontier Barony of Augentide was a spartan gunboat commander stationed on the ice giant Aeterna then, with no decorations as yet.

Deep space sentries detected the World Eaters two days out and immediately sent for help with the ansible relay. An Augentide fleet was dispatched with an ETA of 5 days. That meant Lord Captain Sigismund had to hold an entire cybernetic battalion who knew no sleep and needed no refreshment to keep fighting for three straight days, with only a gunboat with 43 human crew. His failure would seal the fates of 12000 colonists, men, women, and children as thralls of the cybernetic pirates - not a future one would wish for anyone.

The brave crew of the Boedecker bid their final farewells to their families before the engagement began.

At first, their knowledge of Aeterna's formidable ice clouds worked to their advantage. It looked possible that if they could keep darting from cloud to cloud and evading the enemy while delivering killing blows left and right, they might just pull this off. They even managed to take our one World Eater within the first 14 hours.

At the 24-hours-mark, they suffered their first massive hit, and the Boedecker's starboard shield generator was overloaded. It exploded, vaporizing 11 crew and leaving the starboard wide open for any subsequent impact to destroy the ship entirely.

At the 36-hours-mark, a glancing blow took out the lower shuttle bay, erasing any considerations of using escape pods from then on while also killing four engineers tending the final remaining drones.

At the 53-hours-mark, the over-exhausted pilot made a wrong turn straight into and through a World Eater, destroying the cybernetic battleship but losing a whole outer layer of impact armor, killing 13 more crew who were doing spot-repairs among the heavy enemy fire.

At the 68-hours-mark, Lord Captain Sigismund was practically flying the ripped-apart shell of a gunboat with only four heavily-wounded crew members left alive. They knew it was over, so they decided to overload their curvature warp drive and take out as many World Eaters as possible before the end - when the Yates, the Ulrich, the Celestial Vector and the Yucatan warped into firing range. They had been pushing their engines to their maximum for the past three days and had left behind the Rascal stranded some light hours behind when her engines finally broke.

The remaining World Eaters were no match for four Augentide battleships and withdrew immediately.

Lord Captain Alexander Sigismund and his men had fought ceaselessly without sleep for three days straight, managed to take out four battleship-class enemies, and held the rest at bay, saving thousands of lives from cyborgisation.

Now, if anything is courage, I reckon this is it.
