Thanks.
He's holding it in his fist. That's the problem with Venom - uniform colour scheme, meaning he tends to blend into himself. That is a fairly traditional pose for the spider-characters though.

One of my best friends is a Sequential Arts major. He's constantly throwing comics and graphic novels at me..the spider man ones were some of my favourites though. Seriously. I'm such a weird kid now.

Errr. Yes. He's not a Spaniard!
It's like a puzzle! Quick! Swing across the rope-line to press the button before the spikey wall hits us!

Whelllllll.... After being transported to Battleworld by Beyonder along with all the other Marvel superheroes for the massive crossover "Secret Wars", spidey encountered the symbiote - an alien life-form that bonded to him and imitated his costume (sort of). Later, back on Earth, he found that it was trying to forcibly infect him and that it was a malicious consciousness in itself. He used the sound of church bells to drive it off, but it found a new host - a newspaper journalist named Eddie Brock who had been disgraced by Spiderman and wanted revenge. Together they formed Venom. He has all of spidey's powers, including organic webbing, since the symbiote borrowed those traits from spidey, but he's also stronger and doesn't set off Peter's spider-sense.

The Venom symbiote is loosely described as a "suit". It can change shape and even take the form of regular clothing. In its natural state it's a creepy flowing black gunk not unlike the black oil in The X-Files (XF might have ripped it off).

The mouth is kind of inexplicable. It only manifested after the symbiote joined with Brock. It appears that the Symbiote actually reshapes the host's jaw... apparently for dramatic effect.

The origin of the "alien costume" is different in every telling. The main continuity is as I described. In the animated series it was brought down on board a crashed space shuttle. In the "Ultimate Marvel" books, it was designed in a lab as some kind of medical treatment or something. In the movie, Spider-Man 3, it fell as a meteorite and landed, by a massive coincidence, right next to spidey. Ugh.

Thank you for clearing that up.

Could have done with some more sounds effects though.

Just sayin'

Thanks.
