Description
We have had a group of butterflies migrating through the valley, a species that I have never seen before. The butterfly is a California tortoiseshell (Nymphalis californica), and the spider is a Silver-sided sector spider (Zygiella x-notata). The spider did make a move on this beautiful butterfly, but was denied its reward. The butter fly escaped completely unharmed.

Thank you! I thought so too, but this shot didn't go over as well as I had hoped.

Thank you! I was wondering if that spider was going to get her. Just as she started to turn to put her web on, the butterfly moved!
