Description Note: Picture (c.) Games Workshop.

Thanks to Swordbreaker0 [link] SoylenRobot [link] and Chaotea [link] for comments, suggestions, and pointing out my flaws.

Glad I found a really big picture for this one because there's not too much to say on this vehicle. I was surprised I got 4 paragraphs out of it.

Rules-wise, churning it out from an expensive flyer down to a tangible thing like a Voidraven or Valkyrie is difficult. I cut down on the BS and 2 attacks from the Phoenix Missile Launchers and removed the Titan Holo-field.

I had a really hard time justifying one of these. But after looking at the Corsairs, I guess I can be satisfied.

Much like the Falcon, there's a great deal of potential but without Guide it's not going to perform up to it's full point cost very quickly. I actually bothered testing this one. Plus since the Eldar don't have anything like beacons, Deep Striking is just as risky as anyone else.

== POINTS AND OPTIONS ==
Unit: 1 Phoenix
Cost: 165 points

The Phoenix may upgrade both Reaper Launchers to:
- Plasma Missile Launchers: +25 points
- Bright Lances: +40 points
- Star Cannons: +30 points

May take any of the following:
- Holo-field: +30 points
- Spirit Stone: +20 points

I'll have the Eldar vehicle upgrades posted up next, tonight or tomorrow. Just know that it can basically move 12" in the shooting phase in any direction, or simply flat out up to 36" in the Movement Phase.

Interesting take on this vehicle. I like the balance.

Where is the pulse laser mounted? The model doesn't have one. It could be centreline coming out the nose.

I hear you about the Nightwing. I only use mine in Apocalypse games, to intercept enemy fliers.

I know, I couldn't find it either for awhile. It's actually under the fuselage, on the belly.

i guess this is heavy support?

are you gonna put the nightwing [link] in fast attack?

Yes this is Heavy Support. But sorry, no Nightwing. The Nightwing is a dedicated fighter craft who's purpose is to stay high in the sky and take out other aircraft. I'm surprised that GW even makes rules for it on Apocalypse or otherwise. Most of the other flyers are either landers or close support.

And that is the main reason it isn't in here. The Dark Eldar are excused to have theirs because of the amount of areal firepower they lack, and most of a Dark Eldar raid is all about collecting slaves and inflicting destruction so that others can relish in the pain.

The Valkyrie/Vendetta are almost exclusively Imperial Navy, but they can carry troops (lander), and also work closely with Imperial army commanders. The Blood Angels, as much as I don't like supporting it, they do utilize that "lander" craft quite often and most often as troop insertion.

I can see Chaos using one.

I hardly support Tau getting a flyer. Reason being, they have all the firepower on the ground they really need. They just don't need close air support, not with the way they work. Most of their air power like fighters and bombers are concerned with air superiority or titan hunting (since Tau have none of their own). And unless it's about landing operations, there's little correlation between the Air Caste and Fire Caste.

Tyranids are all about getting to the ground and attacking it (literally), so they've got their Harpy.

This I also hardly support but I can see reasons. For one, it's main role is as ground support. Eldar Corsair armies could really use the extra firepower. And the Eldar warhost is also very close-knit, with various and multiple elements constantly working together. An Autarch or Prince won't see much a difference between a Phoenix or Falcon as humans or Tau would flyers.

Also I noticed that since the Guard got their Valkyrie/Vendetta, it's popularity exploded. Not necessarily a bad thing altogether, but it's supposed to be a rare thing. Their mistake was marking it's point cost so low. So when other big flying things came into play, they mark up their expense in-game or make them mediocre for their cost.

I think that's one reason why the made the Phoenix Lords so expensive was so that people wouldn't take them very often. They're designed to be rare.

all good points there, yeah. personally i dont mind the valkyrie, its only AV12 and on a tall base, everything i have can see it. theyve very easy to shoot down.

oh man i totally forgot about the hell talons. I'll have to write one in, CSM lack a fast attack vehicle.

My purpose has been served. I wasn't about to let you forget one of the few places I actually accept a flyer.
