I've been playing with the idea of pixel items but I've been debating detail vs compact size. You can get a lot of detail with pixel at a certain size but I'm not sure how small vs how much detail I'll need especially with clothing items.

Preservation of detail is one of reasons I bumped up our items size to 32x32 as opposed to 24x24, but look at what Pokemon has managed! They fit entire bikes!
