[LAST EDIT FOR REAL] 09/23/11 - I really hate this tutorial. If it helps you, I'm glad, but this is so different from how I do...everything now. I'm scrapping it and closing comments. If you have anything specific to ask me, send a note my way and I'll answer.[LAST EDIT] HOLY MONKEYS ON A SEE-SAW. YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY!! Over 1000 faves? I'm so honored, I can't even express it anymore. Thanks for all the comments and faves. This is definately the most popular piece in my gallery, but if you would ever be so kind to browse through my other works, I'd be very much obliged :3
Buahaha! The return of the crappy tutorials XP
Personally, MS paint is my favorite program to draw eyes. So instead of doing a full scale ms paint tutorial, I decided to just cover the eyes ('cuz I'm THAT lazy)
Yes, I know it's messy and junk.
Hope this helps you even remotely.
[EDIT] Nearing 60...wait 600? Why doth you people keep faving this? THAT'S CRAZY. It's not even very good D:
[EDIT2] 'Kay just to clear things up even more, your eyes do NOT have to look like mine. Please try and put some emotion into them. Trust me, if your eyes's expression is good enough, you won't even HAVE to make it all shiny! I only used that generic anime eye up there to show where and how to color on a larger scale.
[EDIT3] ~~~ this tutorial helped me with expressions. Go; enlighten yourselves.
[EDIT4] Someone finally noticed that there was a better way to get rid of the sketch lines:
1) select the color of the sketch lines (use the eyedropper tool)
2) select the eraser
3) right-click to erase only the selected color
Thank you,
Or you can use the second listed tutorial below.
Read the above tutorials, TONS of help.

I apologize, this tutorial is super old, and I have a pretty bad way of deleting sketches XD
Try this method, it's a lot better:
[link]
Basically, you choose white as your main color. Then, you go to the eyedropper tool and RIGHT CLICK the color you want to remove on your picture (the color of the sketch).
Then, you go to the eraser tool and hold down your RIGHT CLICK and brush over the places that you want removed.
Hope it helps!

For pixelling, MS paint is pretty superior, IMO. But for everything else, I've become dependent on higher end programs...Darn ;_;

This is really helpful, especially for someone like me who doesn't have those fancy-pancy drawing programs. LOL I'm too lazy to get them and MS paint is more fun. Great tutorial!

I've commented before months ago if you remember! I want to say thanks a BUNCH for your tutorial, it's awesome and I finally figured out how to do it right! [link] What do you think of the eyes? It's okay if you say it's bad, I need some good feedback! Thanks again!

CommanderPigg In reply to WarriorDreamer12 [2010-07-20 04:30:49 +0000 UTC]
I remember you! I think that you've improved since the last time ^^
(sorry for the late response, I'm pretty bad about that ^^)
Ok, I can give some feedback now (since you asked for one, it might take a while, lol):
In anime-styled eyes (and in real-life eyes), the top eyelid is normally thicker than the bottom. I'm going to take a guess and say that you use a mouse? I used to use one too, I recommend zooming in to get smoother lines. Also, if you can, invest some time learning how to use the beizer tool (the squiggly line thing). It really helped me before I got a tablet.
In terms of the anatomy, the chin is non-existent which makes it seem a bit awkward. Also, the eyes are a bit wide-set (normal proportions for eyes is that there is an imaginary "third eye" in the middle, the same size as the others...it's flexible, though, depending on the style)
This tutorial saved my butt when I started out (I still use it today!):

I also like this one for perspective:

In terms of the coloring, I think that you did your eyes pretty well, lol. Be sure to fill in any "white spots" in between the lineart to make it look cleaner.
Keep at it! It just comes with practice. Be sure to pay attention to the things other than the eyes too (I think you're getting a hang of it, lol).
Woah, super long post is super long. Sorry if I seemed harsh at some places, critiquing gets me excited, XD

Its okay lol. Thanks for the link, I'll try them out sometime I knew there was something wrong with the chin though, the character looked pretty weird, lol. How would I use the squiggly line tool for?

If you search "mspaint lineart tutorial" you'll get a lot of results that might help you.
I like this one, because it explains exactly how the squiggly line tool worked:

There is another easy trick to earase the sketch colour (the light blue in this case): Wehn you line it out with black, you grab the earaser, choose the blue (sketch) colour and white as your background colour and go earase the sketch with the right mouse button. There you go, easy ! X33
