These are all part of my reel. it's a video of concepts based around character and creature design. if i run outta time, i'll add some of the drawings i did during Advanced Concepts in Animation 1 (advanced concepts...hah, u gotta be kidding me). animations are very time consuming, and i really don't wanna do a bunch of animations that i don't care much about. the 11 second club thing's cool and all, but it's not my thing. wat annoys me is how limited they're idea of quality is. this shit takes time!

I'm not really sure how my Virtual Environments thingy is going to go, but i'm hoping it'll do. i'll finish it off sometime in the afternoon. wat was ur project for that unit?

Ahh I see, this is for Virtual Environments? Or Advanced Concepts? Lol, we're not taught anything in either of those units, which really sucks seeing that we have to magically make something amazing out of nothing (esp. VE) =.=

Well, my project is like an interactive showcase of game animation cycles, but my animations in that are just really not that great lol. The scripting really took wayy too much time. I don't even know why they wont just let us focus on animating instead of doing all these random things.

Nah, my virtual environments thing was to do with motion capture. i was going to tie it in with my main project of concepting, modeling, texturing and animating a few characters, but i got sick of it and lost a lot of motivation. it just wasn't wat i wanted to do. i know wat u mean...i'm not learning anything good there either.

I think wat they're trying to do is integrate the animation and games courses. personally i think that's a horrible idea, and even if they don't do that, i think they're gonna keep both, but substitute units from the games course into the animation one, and vice versa, which is pretty much wat they're already doing. i miss animating with good ol' Max and Ian.

Hmm I see, though I've heard that they've improved the course structure for next year. Apparently they won't have to do Making Connections anymore, and I think Real-Time will be in the second year. You also only need to do 3 units for your final year, which would be your final project and 2 electives/minor. This sounds so much better than what we had lol. Though I'm not sure who they'll have for all the 2D subjects.

Woah...that's so stupid. that's how it used to be! the previous years before i started only had 1 crappy core unit to do (peoples & practices, but it was called something else and yeh, no making connections) and their final unit was worth 24 credit points per semester. unless u meant that they only need to do 2 electives for the entire final year. i've no idea why they changed things in the first place...:s

Wat do u mean about the 2d subjects? Max isn't teaching em anymore?

Ah yeah, I meant 3 units per semester for the final year. How laaamee, why did they even change it?? Umm didn't someone mention a while ago about Max and Ian being let go because they wanted new people to come in or something stupid like that? I don't know if it's still true or not though.

I think they changed it because they wanted more 'content' and didn't think our final projects would take a lot of time to do. it was another shitty executive decision fuelled by bureaucracy and bad business to achieve short term gains. much like those two ridiculous core units we had to do in first year, as well as the lack of a folio submission for entry into the course (which they implemented around the same time); all in place to monetize our education for all it's worth. a lot of people have left because of it - even the previous course coordinator.

I'm not sure if it's completely true, but i heard it first from Arnel. i think Ian no longer teaches with Max. i was messaging someone on deviantart who told me they're doing the drawing for design courses, and they have someone else and Max teaching it. Max might be leaving, but u'll have to ask him. so sad.

At least it's nice to know that they're making some improvements.
