Thank you to Steve Ram, Devsakuraphotography, Black Ring Media, Dazzle photography art, Freek Haan, Harold spierenburg and Roy Coumans for always capturing my cosplays in the most beautiful way possible. I'm so honored to work alongside and with such talented photographers.
When and how did you get started in Cosplay?:
Back in 2013, when I was already into anime and manga, I was searching for new anime to watch and stumbled upon some cosplay photo's on google... I got inspired and wanted to try it for myself... from that point it got.. well... overboard. I really started cosplaying back in 2014 at my first convention YAYCon.
What was your first Cosplay?
My very first cosplay was a quickly thrown together Just Be Friends from Megurine Luka. It consisted of my bridesmaids dress and a pink wig, that was about it. I was proud of it though.
What was the most difficult character?
To date? with costume I would say Jeanne d'Arc because he armor was difficult to alter. For props I think Saber Nero, making her Aestus Estus was very challenging, keep in mind it was created within a week out of solid wood.
What characters are you planning and type of character are you drawn to?:
I'm currently planning on rebuilding my Jeanne d'Arc and Rei Ayanami for Elfia Arcen this september. Other then that, Saber Mordred (full armor) is already on the drawing board.
I'm drawn to characters that have something in common with me. Who do what they want and don't let anyone tell them what they can and can not do.
What is your process when starting from the beginning with a new cosplay?:
I start with a budget, don't have the budget? Then I won't start on it. After securing a budget, I gather the materials. Don't try to rush your project, take as long as you need. Practice makes perfect so if the first version doesn't come out as planned, keep your head up and go back to the drawing board. Every fail is a lesson learned. Always have a back-up plan ready just in case. Yes, even if your costume is already finished. It can always go wrong the moment you least expect it.
Are there any helpful hints in sewing, costume design or any other aspects of your cosplay that you discovered in doing your creations?:
I would say take your time on it, rushed project rarely come out as you want them to. Plus, if you are planning on working with wood; make sure the end product isn't too heavy for you to carry around all day. My Aestus Estus is just 4Kilo's but my arms started to hurt after some time. In short; keep your projects light and make sure you can actually carry them for longer periods of time.
Do you have a preferred brand of makeup in your cosplay? And if so why?:
I don't really have a favorite but I mostly use NYX, their products have lots of pigment and they stay on even after you've been sweating your ass off in the blazing sun.
What are you listening to?:
Currently? Dream State, Babymetal, Vocaloid and I must admit I listen to a (still healthy dose) of K-pop. I listen to music that makes you wonder what on earth is happening to this generation.
Favorite Movies?:
Oh boy, where to start... Your name, Silent voice, spirited away... Many animated movies. I also enjoy the MCU and DCU... I love horror as well but don't really have any absolute favorites in that genre.
Favorite Animes?
Aaaah I have to many!!! Let's see... Absolute favorite? Yu Yu Hakusho for sure. I fell in love with the characters and the story line and now I just can't let it go... Can't remember how many times I've rewatched it... Inuyasha, Pretear and Evangelion follow shortly after.
Favorite TV Shows?:
I don't watch TV that often anymore, but I really like watching unfolding drama.
Is there a scene from a anime, cartoon, movie or tv show that left a big impression on you and what was it?
When Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho decided to save his mother who was dying due to illness. He wanted to return to being a demon, but his mothers love changed him, changed his motives. Because of that love he would risk everything to save her, even if that ment giving up his own life instead.
Books?
Do you need a fork with that?
Just kidding. I love thrillers.
Games?
NieR:Automata
Final Fantasy
Okami
The Witcher 3
Beverage?
I love white wine but Soda is more suitable for now...
Fast Food/ Junk Food of choice?
Well I don't eat a lot of fast food anymore but I love pizza from time to time.
Candy bar?
Milka chocolate.
Favorite Breakfast cereal?
Oef... I don't eat cereal.
Is there something not going on in the cosplay world that you would want to see or is there something you would want to change?
No, I think everything is pretty organized over here. As long as everyone respects each other. Which isn't always the case but I love watching drama, not being involved with it.
What was your favorite toy growing up?
Barbies for sure, Pet shop and Lego's were also of my interest.
Who is your biggest character crush and why?
Well.. of course... Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho.
He's kindhearted but can really throw a punch when needed. I just really like his character.
You enter a warehouse. There is little light, but you are able to find your way around. The sound of music draws you to a corner of the warehouse. There are FIVE GHOUL CLOWNS, playing a dancing video game. They have razor sharp teeth and scary weapons. Magic can not affect them; they sense your presence and turn facing you. They run to you to attack. Time to fight! What character would you want to be to defeat them and how would you handle the situation?
I'd like to be Jinx from League of Legends. Shoot them to a pulp. Then play their dancing game after they are dead. But Im not Jinx, Im probably that one character that dies is the stupidest way possible.
If you had to be chained with a character for one year, what would be the character and what would you do?
Souma from Shokugeki no Souma... I love good food so we'd probably talk about food all day.... all year... And I'd never eat anything disgusting... I hope... Souma please behave!
You can have dinner with your favorite character. And at this dinner you may ask one question. Who would be the character and what would be your one question?
I'd probably chose Rei Ayanami, I think I can really relate to her. As for my one question... I'd just ask her to smile...
What's number 1 on your bucket list? (Something you want to do before you leave the planet).
Leave the planet... oooh sweet relieve of death.
I'd like to travel the world and visit a lot of other conventions and expo's. I'm already doing that to be honest.
What advice would you give to people getting started in Cosplay?
Cosplay who YOU want to cosplay, don't let anyone tell you that you can't cosplay a character because of your body type. Cosplay for yourself, not for others. Don't be afraid to push the boundaries, because that is the fun part of cosplay.
