"What temperature is the Earth supposed to be?" Warm enough for agriculture, cool enough for the permafrost to stay frosty and the ice caps to stay intact. Keep pouring CO2 into the atmosphere, it retains more heat, glaciers retreat, sea levels rise (Naval Station Norfolk is already flooding every high tide in places it never flooded before, and they're far from alone) and things get more dangerous as time goes on. Pouring more CO2 into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels is like piling blankets onto an already too-warm bed, without the ability to kick them off.

If a nuclear submarine's CO2 scrubbers break down, or the CO2 levels overwhelm them, they can surface and open the hatches. If something similar happens on the International Space Station, and they can't fix it, the crew can pile into the Soyuz capsules and evacuate to the Earth. But Spaceship Earth has no escape pods, and there's nowhere to evacuate to. If the ecosystem - Spaceship Earth's life-support system - can't absorb the drastically increased CO2 levels, we may well have nowhere to go but extinct.

We have to do something NOW.

And denialists like you are whistling past the graveyard, or just wanting the fossil-fuel companies to continue killing the Earth to make a killing.

BTW, the people who thought we'd be in the initial stages of global cooling and another Ice Age quite probably never took the CO2 we've been pouring into the atmosphere from smokestacks and vehicle exhausts into account.

Just thought I'd post a little bit of info about here, for those who have been taught to believe that it was 'one article in Newsweek' and that 'no scientists ever made such a claim.'
The simple FACT that even the CIA had written report concerned with global cooling, ought to be enough to clue some in.... but you know how clueless they've been taught to be the past 30 years. For some of them, if it didn't happen in their lifetime, it never happened. Or never happened before. For climate alarmists, Everything that happens nowadays is the First time it ever happened- and it is YOUR fault.
Bottom line- climate science was politicized as far back as the 1970s- just look at the 'solutions' for global cooling. You will see the EXACT same things as are being called for today. And they were being called for by the EXACT same mindset as today- leftist, Malthusian and increasingly anti-poor, anti-elderly, anti-African, anti-Human.***  Which also includes US government science and political organizations.

And here's a list of 285 peer-reviewed papers which backed all of that 285 papers backing Global Cooling 1970sThe claim continues to arise that there was no kind of scientific consensus that 'global cooling' or a 'new ice age' was upon us in the 60s and 70s. Those who make such a claim continue to stick to the absolute falsehood that just a few non-scientific magazines made the claim without evidence, despite the massive amount of information disproving that idiotic contention
