Description
Original meme: [link]1 - Edgar Allan Poe - His most obvious influence on my work can be found in "The Oval Portrait," seen here: [link] , which is directly based on one of his stories. But Poe's influence also extended to "The Rules of Rock, Paper, Scissors," where I continued playing with dark themes.
- Boredom - Ah, yes. My dear old friend, Boredom. It never fails me. Especially in high school, when I'd fill up my empty hours with drawings. I think if I had been a productive, busy person, I would never have become an artist.
- Books - I love books. I love to read them. I love to write them. I even love the smell of books. And to me, there's nothing more wonderful and inspiring than a good book.
- Anime - The biggest spot on this map HAS to go to anime. The first things I ever drew were fanarts of Sailor Moon and Dragonball. Even now, anime is far and away my greatest influence. I may have replaced Sailor Moon with Nana, and Dragonball with Ippo, but fanart still makes up at least half of the things I draw. Having anime as a major influence, however, has not always been a good thing. Other artists will judge you, and group you in with bad yaoi doodles, and screaming fangirls. Even so, my art would never have even gotten off the ground without anime to inspire me.
- Spain Fischer - Spain, *sophiecabra , sat next to me almost everyday, for three years. She is one of my best friends, and also one of the most productive and dedicated artist I know. And no matter how many times Maya crashed on us, or how many times our colleagues berated 2D art, she was always right there with me. So thanks, Spain. To the wall~!
- Disney - I think every artist of my generation will have Disney on their map. Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast - it influenced all of us. It's only a matter of degree. And while the evidence is not as apparent in my art as in the art of some others, it's still there.
- Alphonse Mucha - Really now, who DOESN'T love Art Nouveau? I know I do. And I practically started crying when I got to see one of Mucha's pieces at the Museum of Modern Art this summer. He's my favorite artist, and a huge influence on my work.
- The human figure - I love to draw muscles, and skeletons, and faces, and pretty much anything that has to do with the human form. It's my main subject matter, and it's the thing I love drawing more than anything else.
- George Donald - One of my professors at UCF, Donald gave the best drawing class I've ever had. I learned so much, and even non-arty people could see the drastic improvement I made because of his teaching. He's a right proper Scotsman, who dubbed me "a good Irish lass" after reading my name on the first day of class. Thanks to him, I have a greater understanding of the human figure, and I'll never forget to draw the "Princess Ann" muscles ever again.
- History - Elizabethan England, Ancient Egypt, Qing Dynasty China, Industrial Revolution America - I'll take it all. I love learning about history, and seeing the art of different eras and places. It definitely deserves a place on this map.
- Japan - Putting anime aside, there's still a lot about Japan that inspires me. The language, and the culture, and the scenery are all so wonderful. It's my biggest dream to go there. I probably would never come back.
- DeviantArt - I've been a deviant for over 7 years. I probably check the site a dozen times a day, and the first thing I do when completing a piece is post it. The most influential thing about DeviantArt is all the amazing artists: `Artgerm , `loish , ~Bluefley , and all the others. I love to browse their galleries, and see their beautiful art. On the other hand, sometimes, I also like to look at people's really bad drawings. It's a guilty pleasure, I know, but when I'm down on myself, it makes me feel better, lol. DA is also good for reference material. I get almost all of mine from the Stock Images category.
- Mel, aka Luniara - Last, but certainly not least, is my good ol' buddy, Mel. When I was 16, she was the first truly good artist I had ever met. Initially, her ability drove me pretty mad with jealousy, but soon I came to know and love Ms. *luniara . And since then, she always been the stick by which I measure myself.
