Description
It's been a while since I uploaded anything sinister-looking, or red, for that matter. I had the idea for this a couple of weeks ago, but only got around to finishing it yesterday. I was aiming for a 'distressed' look in the colour and pattern, like an old scroll or something. I edited the colour balance and added a slight vignette in Photoshop to bring out the details I wanted, but since I made no changes to the shape of the fractal itself, I guess it's more of a Raw Fractal than a Manipulation. Also, I'm sorry if I've been slow to respond to comments lately, and that I haven't been keeping up very well with my watch list. University work is keeping me very busy at the moment, so I don't have much free time.
Made with Apophysis 7X, with adjustments in Photoshop.

Thank you very much for the feature! I really like the other pieces you chose, especially the one by *rockgem . Her fractal manipulations are very impressive.

Thank you very much! For me, originality is one of the most important things in fractal art, so that means a lot to me.

this actually reminds me of something Native American or ancient Oriental.
Nice work, Chris.
No worries about me at least...still going nowhere fast. I'm glad you are living!!! Learn lots...

It's interesting that you should say that - I was thinking something similar whilst making it, actually. Thanks for the comment, Jess, I hope all is well with you at the moment.

I love it. what variables did you work with in apo?

Cosmic-Cuttlefish In reply to ellezeno [2012-11-21 00:12:07 +0000 UTC]
Thanks - it's actually a lot more basic than my previous submissions. There are three transforms - the first two are linear, one of which is pre_blurred slightly and smaller than the other, and the third transform is just a swirl/radial_blur.

Thanks! Unusual in what sense? The shape is inspired by All Linked Up by ~mutequacky , which I think probably uses a similar technique. I hope you don't find the post-processing too obtrusive.

I think it's more about the composition rather than the shapes themselves. This fractal is also unusual because of those dark motifs in the background which give your work a ton of eeriness and support for the chosen title, and that is great.
If it weren't for the lit-up parts in the background below the main swirls, I probably would've thought this had no post-processing whatsoever.

Ah, thanks a lot for explaining. It's always helpful to hear feedback about what does/doesn't work well, I think.

Thanks, it's definitely a change from my usual style. I always enjoy trying out different things with Apophysis though, even if the results aren't always impressive.
