Her first encounter with the black creature...

She was never afraid of him. Or the other sentient beings that lived down in the depths of the ARK. She was never scared when she heard them scream and howl and snarl. She was never scared when they bit and scratched and thrashed about.

She knew them. They did not know anyone else.

The black hedgehog was erupting with anger. He had been alive only 16 hours and already people were scaring him. Grabbing at him. Yelling loud and harsh phrases. He scrabbled out of their arms in an indescribable fury and sprinted full-force at the glass pane separating her from him.

He roughly slammed into it, but did not break it. She did not jump. She stopped. And looked into his eyes. Fear. So much fear from this trembling being’s heart and body. He crashed his bloody fist against the glass, and she placed her dainty hand up to his curled fingers.

The beast seemed to come to a halt. His eyes locked on hers as he panted heavily, bleeding over the glass and the floor. This... girl... her eyes. Her frame. Her hand.

She looked so different compared to the others.

His voice rang through the glass, loud and clear.

“HELP ME!!! GET ME OUT OF HERE!!! PLEASE!!!”

She could only sigh in response, and press her forehead on the glass. She could not do anything. She was as helpless as he was.

But she sat, and waited, for him to come out.
