Eh. I personally like the Zaku 2's head over the 1's after all the 1 has a support bar directly in the middle of its viewing track. also the bare right shoulder is kinda annoying since it's the only part of the unit that's not symmetrical.

reason i really like the Zaku 1 is the same reason i like the t-34 tank or the t-62, you have a solid weapons platform, which follows the rule of "form follows function" not as fast or as durable but in the right hands still a dangerous weapon. realistically any form of mobile suit would be used for any number of reasons effectivly, always drove me nuts how direct the combat is in the animes. real combat would most likely take place at great distances due to large calibers, so the Zaku 1 sniper unit would be quite useful. as for the exposed shoulder and bar i think it varies, but in the end the zaku 2 is faster and way more powerful. i do like the zaku 2's head design as well, just something about the older suit that charms me the same way an old soviet tank does <3

well Gundam's close range combat comes from the fact that there's all that interference from mononski particles on the battlefield. It knocks out tons of electronic sensors and communication so combat relies on visual target acquisition.
I know by itself that should still mean combat at "infantry" ranges but a lot of mobile suit weapons are also very shot range automatics as well. I think some of that has to do with space combat, automatics are generally going to be a better choice in space combat for the same reason aircraft nose guns are automatic. a higher change to hit the target in a small window of opportunity to do so.

as much I like CE's Zaku warrior but I think the only Zaku from UC is the RF Zaku from F90 (Refined)

elaborate, "the only Zaku from UC" bit's a bit confusing. untill you mentioned it I didn't even recall the refined Zaku from f90. mainly becuase I've only seen profiles for the MS on a few sites and never got my hands on f90.

I was talking about the RF Zaku (besides gouf, dom, and gelgoog) and from what I heard its suppose to be better than the geara doga. [link] and the last time we ever see whats left of zeon in F90's case

if I ever get around to drawing a second version of this I'll make sure to add the RF Zaku in as well. maybe slip the S, Mine Layer, and High Mobility in too.

I can definitely see the evolution of the Zaku from UC to CE. Still, people have preferences over which is better: Is the "original still best" or is it "out with the old and in with the new"?
To me, I like the CE Zaku because of the helm and the shield. Lunamaria Hawke as a Zaku pilot was a big bonus for me XD

I've liked certain aspects of every Zaku, from the Zaku 1 not having pipping on the legs to the Warrior's shoulder shield. I however don't like the helm as it's reminiscent of the FZ's B type helm which only served to drive the Zeon=Nazis relation home. I do comment CE for putting the shield on the left arm finally.
