This is my favourite work of mine, and its because I was pushed so much to try streetshooting. I had really good fun that day and this was one of those moments captured by being ready and in the right time and place.

i think my favorite thing about this image is how the young woman is portrayed in the light and how the homeless man is in the shadows- i think it really brings out a whole other side to the image~ XD i also like how you have the two figures comletely in focus and the world around them just a bit blurred, really keeps your eyes where they should be, and the subtle (but noticiable) changes in the lightness and darkness work very well for this pic rather than being highly contrasted. excellent photo!

Thank you so much for that, you have hit spot on what works for me too in this shot, it was a winner the moment I took it and I knew I had got a special moment between two people. This photo will always be one of my favourites because I pushed so many of my own personal boundaries taking it Thank you

Thank you, this was one of my first real attempts at streetshooting and I know I caught a special moment here. Its not posed at all, and that makes it all the more poignent I guess

It's one of the marketable picture out there!
what great about this picture is that not that it's absolutely beautiful; but it is marketable
people would likely buy this picture
it shows many things and can be interpreted in different ways
it has great background; subject; and person!
double thumbsup for you

Aw, that's sweet. Excellent as well; don't you love when you're in the right place at the right time? I like the guitar in the background.

Thank you, yes I love being in the right place at the right time, and the guitar is important because it turns this homeless guy from a mere beggar into a busker. It gives him some self respect.

This is very, very touching. Images with such a powerful impact are very rare. It's just plain beautiful yet sad. Technically speaking i've nothing to say,you did a wonderful job concerning both composition and the tonal range. Great job!

Thank you so much, I was walking along in York and I saw this scene in front of me, nothing posed, I just shot two shots and this was the second. Its rare to be presented with such a wonderful scene and I am glad you think I did a great job capturing it. Thank god for taking a camera everywhere

Excellent photo. I would recommend using the color balance tool, and increase yellow and green by about 4 points each (maybe as many as 8 for one or the other). Thus decreasing the blue, magenta cast slightly, and making your black and white tone slightly more authentic looking. Again, great shot.

Thanks for that, I have messed this up a little as I had to lighten considerably when printing on my Epson R2400 My monitor was too bright, the prints too dark and I have now overdone the brightness.....
I need to look at it again and will do once I get chance, watch this space

this is a really nice photo... it makes me think a lot... id like to start taking more photos of people but i feel very uneasy doing so
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
crazy1ady In reply to werd678 [2005-10-23 16:21:37 +0000 UTC]
Thank you The best way to get over the uneasiness is to just go for it. I also feel like that sometimes too. If you always have a respect for the people you are shooting then you will not take any photos that are disrespectful and 99.9% of the time people are not going to say anything when you take a photo of them.

Wow, I had a huge reaction as soon as I saw this- it's absolutly beautiful. Children really aren't afraid of anything- even as adults most of us wouldn't dare go up to a homeless person and ask them "odd" questions, but she was probably brought up in such a way that made her want to ask him if he was ok. I think he will remember that.
Beautiful shot, I'm still waiting for my chance to capture something this emotional.

Thank you so much for your comment. You have got exactly the reaction I got when I took the shot. Therefore, I have managed to succeed in portraying what I wanted. Just to let you know, this shot was one of two taken and it was after she had given him some money. It was a bit of a bizarre moment because he seemed very slightly agitated by something and they had more of a conversation than just the usual thank you. Yes, as adults we are more constrained, its the way society raises us. Children question more and have less fear. As we grow up we get hurt, our fingers burnt and withdraw into ourselves.... its a sad shame......
I was in the right spot at the right time to capture this one. Keep your camera handy and be quick. Shoot with someone else and use them to hide behind, works a treat

Lovely shot, packed with emotion. You've really captured the moment here. Love it!
The person in the top left corner is somewhat distracting, but there's not much you could do about it. If your lens is faster than the f/5 aperture you used, you could have used a larger aperture to blur the background a bit more.

Thank you for your comment, unfortunately it was shot at the fastest apeture available on the lens I used
I would love a faster one, its on my list of things to buy
