Sphinith is capable of seeing into the future and will determine the best course of action. However, Sphinith knows that it cannot prevent everything from happening and that change is inevitable. It is believed that Sphinith knew that the civilizations it raised and created alongside Pharaarde would cease to exist, but that greater things were in store. Sphinith is extremely protective of Pharaarde and those it deems worthy of its protection. It is the only Pokemon capable of learning Brilliant Wisdom.

Sphinith's nighttime form, known as "The Ancient Gravewatcher", was mainly in charge of watching over the dead, while its daytime form was in charge of helping Pharaarde. Nighttime Sphinith would still counsel Pharaarde, but it would counsel it on what to do for the dead, wishes of the dead, ceremonies and where to build sanctuaries for the dead. The frightful appearance it has is primarily to scare away evil spirits, enemies of its civilizations and graverobbers. When its daytime counterpart foretold that their civilization would collapse, Nighttime Sphinith made sure that future archaeologist would discover the tombs and ceremony relics used in their civilizations. It is the only Pokemon capable of learning Departed Wish.
