Description
Here's my first Omnitrix alien, Phobos, back and better than ever. After taking up the offer of insanedude24 's request drawings (which are no longer available at the moment, so don't go pestering them!) and seeing how incredible he could become, I decided it was high time my own sketch of my creation needed a visual update . . . unfortunately, there's not a lot to go off of, so a bit of what you see here was inspired by the drawing that insanedude24 so kindly made for me. Keep in mind that while I had the original idea, the visual update is all practically based off of insanedude24's drawing; I give him full credit where credit is due.

Anyway, this guy original debuts in a fanfiction story I made over on Fanfiction.net and, while admittedly paling in comparison to some of my current works, was still rather successful for a Ben 10/Monster High harem crossover story. If you don't believe, go on over and it yourself!

Name: Phobos

Species: Varjoain

Home Planet: Tenbrice Alpha

Powers/Abilities: Phobos' body is made up entirely of shadows, meaning he has full control over them. The common form of manipulation that he uses is umbrageous teleportation, to use shadows as a means of transport. He can use these for short travel, as long as the destination in question is within his line of sight; while unconfirmed, long distance umbrageous teleportation could result in appearing in a random - and possibly dangerous - location of undesirable choice.

Phobos is capable of manipulating his body to his will, allowing him to morph and shape his amorphous body into what he needs, though are limits to what he can do. This also grants him a healing factor of sorts, as he is made entirely out of shadows and does not have a body like that of an average carbon-based lifeform.

Varjoains are also able to summon various meelee and long-range weapons that are usually made from parts of his body, taking on black and silvery colors to represent darkness. Of interesting note, there is a possibility that Phobos is also capable of manipulating space to an extent as he doesn't seem to grow or shrink whenever he summons or puts his weapons away.

A Varjoain's main and most notable ability however, is that of fear instigation. Victims that look into their eyes are forced to witness and experience their worst fear and nightmare; only they and the Varjoain in question are able to see it and only the victim can experience it, their mind making them feel as if they are really there. Known symptoms of victims include vomiting, paling of the skin, paralyzation , and some have been known to quite literally die of fright in some cases.

Weaknesses: Phobos' fearsome gaze doesn't work on blind species such as Vulpimancers.

Sunlight and other forms of intense illumination greatly weakens a Varjoain and restricts their shape-shifting abilities to almost nothing, making encounters with species such as Pyronites and Prypiatosian-Bs a risky business. This has not been known to destroy them like Ectonurites and Vladats, however.

Phobos can be frightened by his own gaze, much like Toepick, should he ever look at a reflective surface, like a mirror.

Etymology: Phobos is named after the Greek personification of fear.

Trivia: The species name translates from the Finnish "varjo", which means "shadow".

The Varjoain homeworld, Tenbrice Alpha, derives from the Latin word for darkness, "tenebris".

Varjoain's first evolved their terrifying powers because they feed off the chemicals the brain releases when under intense fear or stress and developed this as a means to hunt down their prey for food and resources.

Phobos' abilities are similar to that of the Gremloblin from Gravity Falls and the supervillain, Scarecrow, from the Batman franchise.

The Varjoain's shadow capabilities first didn't evolve until a rift between Tenbrice Alpha and Ledgerdomain opened several million miles from the planet's surface. Much like a sun, the rift bathed the planet in magical radiation and over time, the Varjoain developed their umbrateleporting capabilities and body manipulation.

Beforehand, Tenbrice Alpha did not have a sun and was originally a rock floating out in the empty void of space that most races considered to be devoid of any sort of life, unaware of the species that traversed the planet's surface in total darkness. Nowadays, the planet is bathed in an eerie, purple glow that gives any visitors brave enough to even visit the planet an uneasy feeling that their being watched and followed from afar.

Most Varjoains are not particularly friendly towards offworlders and will sooner see them as food than visitors, as previous experiences usually don't end well for either party. Despite this, some Varjoains have left their homeworld behind and work as interrogators or nightwatchman, as their night-related abilities make them nigh unstoppable in total darkness.
