Description A couple of years ago I made a map attempting to show the various relationships between the many worlds and realms that make the Great Wheel of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2e cosmology. This version fixes some errors and missing elements (such as demiplanes), as well as include more information so that the chart can be of better use.

The idea was to cram the three main groups of realms -Outer Planes, Inner Planes, and the crystal spheres of the Prime Material- into a single chart, though this required the map to be made considering relationships and connections between the realms, rather than exact distances and relative positions.

Hopefully this will be of use to some Dungeon Masters out there who still enjoy using the fantastic Multiverse that TSR created and the countless settings it includes.

Part of the texture was made using Ayelie Stock's excellent Old Paper Texture 04, which can be found here:Β ayelie-stock.deviantart.com/ar…

Made in Photoshop.

I love this! Is there a higher resolution file with more legible text?Β

I relay like this but the text is basically unreadable. I am looking forward to a version 2.1 or 3.0 with either vector text larger fonts or a finer pixel size. I also want to echo the opinion that the layout is very good at the small scale and while it is open at the largest scale i think that is fine. Also if i am not mistaken based on some things you have said elsewhere you have a list of references if you put that together as an accompanying document that would be neat.

Personally I think the Abyss being infinite is just demon propaganda.Β

This is a very good representation of the D&D Multiverse. But, is there a version of this map that is less flattened (i.e. text is selectable, vectors), like a PDF or SVG?

Very interesting and highly creative. I don't think I've seen anyone else attempt to pull off a map that shows the level of Prime Material Plan detail that Spelljammer added to the Great Wheel Cosmology.

The planetary systems in the Spelljammer section are more of a diagrammatic list of worlds, than a map showing their distances from the primary, but I think they convey the list of celestial bodies in a relatively small space.

One thing that your diagram doesn't seem to put across is that the Phlogiston that lies between the various crystal spheres is somehow cut off from the rest of the Great Wheel (despite also being part of the Prime Material Plane). I believe some of the spells that pull objects onto other planes can be used to bypass a crystal sphere wall, but that magic that contacts other planes fails when casts further into the Phlogiston.

But given the impossible level of detail that TSR have created, I'm really surprised that you have managed to go far beyond some of the other diagrams I've seen and create this layout.

Have you ever had any thoughts about using a "phlogistion coloured" background between the crystal spheres or trying to depict the little-known "Paramagnetic Gradiant", that zats can see, but most other races (except the Arcane) seem to be ignorant of?

I'm extremely glad to have stumbled upon this. It's an absolute brilliant map and makes me very nostalgic.
Glad to know that the 2E Metasetting is still appreciated like this.

Awesome map.

But... You have a lot of empty space there, that could be filled up with larger font sizes and images. If I let this expand to the width of my monitor, I can't read anything. Even as a print-out I suspect it would be tough going.

Thanks!

Aye, I understand what you mean. I think all the open space was leftover from the way I composed the piece zoomed out by adding elements I've drawn previously by separate.

I'm thinking about doing another version later on over this one in order to add more stuff, such as flow directions, divine realms, and stuff like that. Hopefully that will help fill the void!

I think you have a real challenge on your hands to fit information from the Inner Plane diagrams, Outer Plane diagrams, find what is known about Spelljammer and also deal with the transitive planes on a single diagram.

I suppose that if you pulled some of the sidsbar text off of the map, and moved it to an accompanying handout (or had this image on a website with mouseover pop-ups that included the sidebar stuff) you could create even more whitespace and then try to find a way to pull the various symbols closer together.

But you are going to need to keep some whitespace. If you go too far the other way, you are going to create so much clutter that people can't tell what is what.

One thing I would say is that, when I zoom in on various small areas of this, it seems to me to be the perfect level of detail, whitespace and layout, for that close up aspect. I bet you could chop this image up and shuffle sidebar text (so that it wasn't chopped in half) and create about half a dozen handouts from this one diagram.

Thanks for your patience gathering and linking informations, giving to us this exhaustive map.
I'll instantly insert it into our planescape.it project/portal.
Tnx

Much appreciated! Feel free to use it as you see fit.

It was a really fun undertaking; I'm just glad to help share this sort of information, particularly with new DMs and players who might not have access to the old source material.
