Well, as I warned, I made my tutorial. This is how I make the pictures for my "Gothic Army." If you have any questions, please ask. Please fav if you find this useful, and don't forget to show me what you can do. Thanks! So you can't change the picture to black and white? Which version of Photoshop do you have? I can try to walk you through it if you haven't figured it out yet. I think I made this tut with CS3.

Hm. I really don't think there is much of a difference between the two, but try clicking Alt+Shift+Ctrl+B.

I really wish I knew what else to tell you. Your best bet might be to create a new layer, use a large round brush, pick black on your color palette, and set the blending mode on the brush to "color." Once you do that, color over the whole image. That will make it black and white. From there, you'll have to go to Image > Adjustments > Variations to add a tint to it.
