"After all, if deviantArt didn't see logic in giving us the option to disable, then they must know that its perfectly acceptable at times to do so." cause deviantart has the wisest and oldest humans on earth in their hq to work with. aswell as buddha, god himself, mohammed, zeus and some eternal old alien race.

I wish those who are always too busy to reply to comments (or just too lazy) would disable them. I see hundreds of people making comments on someone's work and really all added up its a collective total of hours worth of time wasted on comments that the artist couldn't even be bothered responding to just some of them If one has no intention on answering at least some comments or questions, they should spare their watchers some time and disable them
Anyway, it is a sensitive topic indeed I personally love leaving mine open to comments though. There's only 1 bad one for every 100 anyway, so the odds are good

Alfisko In reply to Chromattix [2010-10-04 14:29:54 +0000 UTC]
Agreed. I try to respond to every comment that needs response, which means I don't reply to comments like "That's nice!", because I think that should be solved by adding the work to favourites. But in other cases, I'm very responsive.
My deviations don't even get 100 comments, so that could be the reason why there's no bad comment yet. :-D

Same here. I rarely ever respond to comment that's less than 5 words long. Not because I don't care but because it looks silly when an artist replies to every one...I'm sure it'll annoy those who just wanted to give a quick few words and move on too But some comments are very detailed or even ask questions about it. I aways respond to those

i respond to any comment i get no matter how short because i appreciate every comment i get =\ to call it "useless blabber" as you do in your sig is so mean because the person who said "that's nice" to you is only being kind. i mean i know it's not a critique but still it's just an extra way of being kind... appreciate it!!

Alfisko In reply to Sachi-pon [2010-10-04 16:52:07 +0000 UTC]
Oh come on. Admit it, it's a useless blabber. Usually the people that only say "That's nice!" or "Awesome" don't even have time to form some sentence that a bot couldn't generate like "The textures look really detailed on this one." or "I especially like the...."
But that doesn't mean I don't like these comments, I'm still really happy when something new appears in my feedback folder, I really am.
The bad thing is, that I usually click on their name and see their gallery, which was probably the reason why they posted such a comment on my work. Anyway, I don't mind them.

Good feedback is okay. The ocassional "wow' or "awesome" is okay too, they liked your work. ...it just wasn't overly emotionally appealing, just 'good' art.
Then you get the creepy troll guys, or lurkers, who have some weird agenda known only to them. Those are the ones to flag/spam or disable, because they throw stones, or start an arguement.
You click their gallery, and click off quick. Creepy.
Or you get the arist who is so into themselves that they'll start a tirade against a harmless comment, or decide that they're the self-appointed dA police.
I've had friends who've had to get whole new accounts to avoid people/cyber-stalkers.
It's sad sometimes. But it is necessary.

I DISABLE COMMENTS-
BECAUSE I LACK THE SELF ESTEEM AND INTEGRITY TO WITHSTAND CRITICISM AND FILTER THROUGH BLATANT NEGATIVITY TO FIND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITIQUE.

Some people disable comments because their rather popular art gets hundreds of ''My god I love your sig!'', ''*insertstupidemote*'', ''teehee so funnayh'', and obvious trolls and flamers. The comments here in dArt can usually be so uttelry pointless that sometimes it can be a chore to read any of them.
Naturally some people disable comments because they can't handle the criticism, but please don't judge people so easily (:

I was indicating that I as in LITERALLY I MYSELF lack the esteem and criticism to filter though a shitton of negative comments and "OMG LET'S BE FRIENDS, PLEASE RESPOND TO MY COMMENT OR VISIT/WATCH ME" comments.

Sometimes it is just smarter to disable comments, especially if it's on a sensitive subject.

I agree, for EXTREMELY sensitive subject (kind of subject that lead one to want to kill the whole world just because you wrote a word).

I personally find it very uncinvenient not being able to praise an image when I really enjoy it, it's awkward. Still, I respect poeple doing that, and this stamp here is just bloody brilliant, well animated and real funny

That's very well done. Well, I personally don't do that, but I guess that if it's your art, you should decide whether you want people commenting

Funny.
But I hate when peeple disable their comments. But I also hate when peeple flame for no reason. Wouldn't it be better to just block those individual deviants that try to give you trouble?

Cryobash In reply to BobsCookie [2010-10-04 16:52:43 +0000 UTC]
Problem: the deviantblock list is limited in terms of numbers of blocked deviants.

SailorKnightWing In reply to BobsCookie [2010-10-04 15:21:43 +0000 UTC]
You can do that. Go to your settings, and at the bottom of the page you can list any Deviant you want and they can no longer access your page or deviations.

Great stamp, by the way. I don't disable comments, but I can understand why some people do. The animation is really fun, too.
