Description
Just another simple knot. The method used to create it can be found in the tutorial it was created for: [link]
I don't know if it's done yet, there's so many things I can still do with it..
Full view for all the purty details.
EDIT: Added a border, now the line work is done. All that's left to do is color it!
Although the only scheme I can come up with is red and orange stained glass

I was like yeah, he has a tutorial on how to do it!Β
And then I opened it...and closed it
I guess it was silly of me to expect it would be something I could learn in few hours, haha

Well, if you're familiar with Inkscape it doesn't take long at all. The problem I always have is getting it to look good enough to finish.

Nice stuff.Β Really ice.Β
I do the ornaments with a similar method, butΒ I like to hide unique things between the lines (like figurative elements) in the ornaments.Β I made a little montage about what I'm thinking:
Keep up your good work.

Thank you.
Interesting. I tried something similar to that early on, but I could never get the composition looking right.

That's so funny, I was just using that same tutorial for InkScape. Unfortunately, I don't have the patience to do this... How long did it take you to do this?

CryoSphinx In reply to i-Moosker [2013-05-23 15:45:13 +0000 UTC]
It's been a while, so I can't remember how long exactly, but I think it was about a week, on and off. Fortunately the different sections turned out well on the first or second try, so I didn't have to spend a lot of time redoing them.
And like the tutorial mentions, you really only have to do 1/6th of the knotwork. (or 1/3rd, 1/4th, 1/7th, etc.)

Mph yeah, I still don't think I'd have that kind of patience, I usually tend to do most of my artwork in one sitting- anywhere from 5 to 14 hours, can't imagine spending any longer on something that is particularly "interwoven" and detailed ... ~

If that's the case, then maybe try smaller knots like: [link] or [link]
Those don't usually take very long.

This is way cool! I have just started learning to draw knotwork on paper. This looks very complicated - I plan on looking at the tutorial link. Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work!

Thanks!
It actually isn't as complicated to make as it looks, as long as you build it up a bit at a time. Getting it to look GOOD is another matter entirely, that part was mostly hit-and-miss for me

wow. this is amazing. the detail is... out of this world.
as for colors. why not try a soft glassy blue? with some red? or even a yellow?

Yeah, I was thinking of pale colors originally, but at this point it's unlikely I'll be revisiting this piece.

I was wondering if you would allow me to use this knot as a background for one of my recently posted drawings (found here:[link] )? I'll put full credit to you, of course. I just really want a knot for a background, but I'm having some issues making my own. :/

For coloring, if you don't mind me suggesting...
The ring of circles could be a symbol for the elements: Earth, Fire, Air, Water... and Light, Dark?
I don't know for the center.. maybe a simple "stained-glass" looking color? An opal, or other gen with lots of colors in it?
Working out from the middle in triangles could be color associated with the elements in the stained-glass style?
I apologize if you did not want any suggestions, I just thought of something like that when I first saw the knot. It's very beautiful btw

CryoSphinx In reply to Sephs-Filly [2010-10-05 16:32:24 +0000 UTC]
I don't mind getting suggestions.
I was originally planning on having the insides of the circles filled out, sort of like in this one: [link] with colors coordinated with the symbols. But, I kinda lost interest in adding colors after I started a number of other projects.

Well, at least that's the good thing about knot work *lol* They don't always need colors to be beautiful
I saw your tutorial btw, can't wait to try out the method. Lately been trying to draw them freehand x_x Thanks for the tut and that it's so simple to read *thumbs up*
