Making Knots with Inkscape.

This is the most efficient and expedient method I have found so far for making knotwork in Inkscape (Or vector art programs in general)

Let me know if you find this tutorial useful or confusing. Any questions, comments, or critiques are welcome.

The end result of the knot can be seen here: [link]

Note: In-case you did not know, Inkscape is free and Open Source, you can find it here: [link]

I have also created a similar tutorial for Gimp, which can be found here: [link]

CryoSphinx In reply to SmudgeyPie [2012-08-21 15:15:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh. That's just because you're using a different color scheme and theme for windows. Inkscape itself is the same.

It is fairly easy. Though it does usually take a few tries to get one that looks good.

Cryo, may I ask you a Knotwork ? I'm a wikipedia cartographer, and I'm interested to produce something like this Lord of the Rings-like map. I wonder if you may share, or create a similar background and windrose, in SVG and CC-by-sa license. So we cartographers may use them for some of our wikimap

CryoSphinx In reply to hugolpz [2012-02-19 19:05:22 +0000 UTC]

That sounds interesting, but I don't know if I have the time at the moment. I'm currently working on a few other projects.

CelticCasualty In reply to CryoSphinx [2011-08-28 10:01:22 +0000 UTC]

Mayhaps once. But it's not got the same feeling to it, it looks far too easy.

CryoSphinx In reply to CelticCasualty [2011-08-28 14:01:39 +0000 UTC]

True, the construction process is quite easy, but making a knot that looks 'good' is something else entirely.
