Description My Spore version of the Martian Fighting Machine, this time with more detailed legs, which were different pieces alltogether. AA bit like a jigsaw puzzle.

Enjoy

It looks greater every time you update it! The sections look really good, you're the Spore master! How do the feet look by the way? I don't think I've ever seen the way you made the feet

The feet are just round disks. Im still looking for a way to make them with the 3 toes.

Cool, looking forward to seeing it one day!

The original design of both the Fighting and Handling Machine had round feet, they updated it for the live version of the show into the more ''predator'' like claws (which I personally really like, the way the toes ''retract'' when the foot is lifted looks great) But I guess you already knew that

I got a making of feature on my special edition DVD about animating the Martian Machines. It's really fun to watch, especcially as I am in the 3D business it is fun to see the Martian Machines being animated and the 3D models. Then I saw that mine are much more detailed (it has more faces, if you know what I mean. So according to the numbers mine is more rounded), but theirs are better textured and animated so you don't see the little things

Thats where I found the Idea for the 'round feet' pretty helpfull. And yes, the also love the claw like feet, very menacing and creepy to watch.
And a friend of mine who has no idea about the musical has the special edition DVD, I asked to watch that particular footage of the animation. Very entertaining to watch
Their design of the fighting machines are a bit short in the face, the body seems to be smoother along the end but shorter in the front. Yours seem to capture the original album cover very well, I'm guessing you used the Fighting machine bluprints?

I did, For the 2006 tour they indeed changed the shape a little, not just things like the Heat Ray and the Feet, but the basic shape overall. I liked the original shape more, and added things from the ''new'' version to it, that I liked. For the 2010 Tour they remodelled the Fighting Machines, more closely to the album version and Mike Trims Blueprints. Although there is one thing that I didn't like, and that was on the back of the hood, where the read leg is attached. There is this U shaped part, they made that far to high. It looks weird from the front, almost like he has a metal punk haircut or something xD [link] But the basic shape was really well done

Yes I see what you mean about the U shape. The original cover illustration shown the hood of the machine to be surrounded by some kind of 'cable' like piping that runs from the heatray, around the 'eye' and attatching to the back spine. I often liked that look about the original. But they do change little details from time to time, and it's us the fans that notice the difference!

It is, normal people don't see it, and there are many things like that, that they change And it's funny to know people that notice (I sometimes watch the DVD and my mum is in the room and then I am like ''Mum, you see the shape of the hood here... and then 2 seconds later ''and here? see the difference?'' ''uhhh... No...'' xD

Yeah, I say things like that, only to convince my parents even more than I'm obsessed. I even admit it when they look at me in a funny way

haha, I know that one. I always want to keep things to myself for the most part, but I can't hide that I am a War of the Worlds fan if there are 3 posters, and dozens of images and things on my walls in my room, so my (then) 4 year old Nephew started to ask what those things were And he wants to know everything, how they walk, who is driving them, how they look, how do they see through those round eyes, where do they come from, does it hurt when you get shot by them... so funny when someone of his age asks all about it

That's kinda cute, but can be anoying, sadly I dont have alot of War of the Worlds stuff on ym walls. I get ashamed to admit it too, but most of the time I'm quite happy to whistle the whole musical in front of my friends.

Yeah, when I was still at school I got bullied all the time for my hobbies and interests so I kept everything to myself the last few years, bun when I quited school and started working things changed, suddenly you're in the ''adult world'' and there people know that everyone has different hobbies and interests. So people make jokes about it (about everything and everyone so that's different) and not bully anymore. (At least that's what happened to me) and also in the adult world everyone knows the War of the Worlds so that's also fun I got a evening of when I went to see the War of the Worlds live, and next day at work everyone was like ''How was it?'' so that was fun And I whistle the tune all day long xD

haha well thank you, that's one big compliment you gave there man! And it's indeed a great privilege to know a fellow War of the Worlds fan. And you too do the community a great justice, not just Jeff Wayne's version, but War of the Worlds as a whole. And it's not all roses and moonlight though in the adult world, suddenly you need to pay taxes and insurances! xD
