Most people would go for a Jeff Wayne design. It seems to be the majorities preferred favorite. I've always looked to the novel to find my own vision of the machines.

I've seen a few fanmade designs going about. Though it's probably best that they didn't have one for the sake of the film's direction. The invaders couldn't have launched such a swift assault if they had to construct their weaponry first, especially in this day and age.
