DEATH AND EXISTENTIAL BELOW, BE CAREFUL READING THIS
They had been coughing for too long now..
Tony watched the brown gro in concern, they had been coughing for longer than 5 minutes at least. Their glands continously leaked as they coughed, almost like they were trying to get something out of their throat. But that didn't make much sense, that black stuff easily came out with each cough.. It practically covered their entire pillow and sleeping mat.
He had offered to get someone, maybe Dr. F, to help them stop the coughing but the gro refused, saying they were okay. They looked sad when they said that.. but the coughing had started up again before he could ask them anything else. Everyone in the tent was too sick to pay much attention, even Tony felt it was rather hard to keep his eyes open to keep an eye on the stranger. Their coughing was so loud though.. he couldn't bring himself to sleep when he knew they were hurting. This sickness seemed... really bad. Dave said it was only really bad runny glands, but something didn't feel right..
Tony jumped out of his thoughts when the coughing escalated to a terrible hacking sound, watching in concern as Vigil sunk close to his side. The boo usually responded with hisses and growls at loud noises, why was he hiding behind Tony this time? The gro's hacking worsened, claws reaching for their throat and clawing at air. The black goo was leaking like water out of their mouth with each shudder of their chest, fear clear in their eyes. Were they choking? Maybe he should try to get up and get someone-
Before Tony could even force his legs to prop himself up, the coughing stopped, turning into choked gurgles as the gros eyes widened. Suddenly they collapsed onto the mat with a loud thud, eyes blank and body shuddering a final time before it just stopped. It stopped.
Vigil moved from behind him, eyeing the gro warily. Tony couldn't react as he stared in horror, a gro in the tent seemed to have reacted to the stop in sound and moved to a flap of a tent to call someone.
How- How did that happen so fast. Tony just spoke to them a while ago, they smiled at him-
How could all of that just disappear so quickly? No, this couldn't happen, they were fine, they're okay, this didn't happen- Tony just dozed off, this is all a bad dream, it's not a serious sickness, his friend said so, it can't kill-
He let out a choked cough, cold dread trailing up his spine. Two gro pushed open the flaps of the tent, one teal and the other a dark red. They had these weird face masks, Tony couldn't focus on how they looked as they walked over to the limp body laying on the mat. The kind gro didn't react or move as the two medics moved all their limbs onto the mat and carefully started to lift them up. Tony's head ached harshly as the teal gro lifted up the mat, obscuring the gros face from his sight.
He didn't even know their name.
"This plague is getting worse." The teal one spoke up, their mask falling from their mouth. "We've had to pick up too many bodies.." Their voice lowered to a whisper at that, but Tony heard.
He still heard.
"Yes.. Hopefully those gros that came in can help cure this stuff." It was the red one talking now. His voice was muffled.
"Couldn't they have brought some supplies first? You're all thin.. Have you been eating?"
"Losin' my appetite.."
"I know. Eat for your family though, they still need you."
Family..
The medics finally managed to wrap the body, lifting it up and quickly leaving the tent and allowing a brief flash of the outside. It looked dull out there, and he managed to spot more bodies covered in blankets.
Tony let out a sob once the flaps closed, bringing his claws over his eyes. He couldn't stop once it started, his body aching further from his shaking. But it was too much, it was all too much. He just watched someone leave, like nothing, there wasn't anything.
It was just quiet. They died in front of them, he watched as they could barely take a final breathe, and it was nothing. Everything just continued. Everyone is still sick, everything is still gloomy, their death didn't do anything, he was still far from his family-
What if he had died. Would his family find out? Would anyone tell them?
Would they even question why he never came back home, wonder why they had seen him around... Would his dad even look for him?
Would him dying even be noticed?
Virgil let out a soft kwoo besides him, gently nudging him with a paw. Tony shook his head, burying his face into the boo's side and trying to sob more quietly as to not disturb the others. He missed his dad, he missed Lee's soft fur and feathers, the soft lullabies he'd sing whenever he couldn't sleep..
Vigil moved closer, shifting his tail to curl more protectively around him.
"I-I wan' my pa.." Tony sobbed out softly, feeling lonlier than before.
woops, tony now knows Death
