I've been studying fashion history a lot in the past few years. Even though Misty's original fit is actually relatively current again due to fashion's cyclic nature, they felt the need to change things up.
The way they changed things up makes it seem as if she just got a larger size in her clothes (except for the lower waistband). Maybe she finally got the money for new clothes.
