Description
I've made a journal about this laptop, I decided to post a pic about it now. This looks like a good laptop, but the Graphics chip is the problem, even if I booted it up, the screen would just appear blank, lit but blank, no bios no nothing.
I even researched about this problem, and the laptop model is a Dell XPS m1330; and as it turns out, people had a similar issue, so what was the fix?
Getting a new motherboard, $250 , thats already a fraction of a new laptop, its not worth it... basically, it would've been this or the new desktop I built.
So what I plan on using this laptop for is for my hardware learning, you know, taking apart a laptop and putting it back together... stuff like that.
I'll post an image or images of the processor when I actually do get around to taking it apart. Since it has an intel centrino 2 inside.
So yeah... tell me what you think.

lol I'm using a Dell XPS M1530 (Product)RED Edition....it is a pretty good laptop compared to my old laptop lol [HP Pavilion DV-9500T]
I have a 3 year warranty that expires this year xD
I've had the Palmrest Replaced 3 times, Motherboard replaced once, keyboard twice, hard drive once.
All for Free... Extended Warranty is WORTH IT for Dell laptops!!!
lol
I would not buy a mac because it doesn't fit my necessities [I DON'T WANT CONVERTS UGH..] [I love having HDMI, VGA, Fingerprint Scanner, S-Video, Two Button Mouse instead of that bullshit whole mouse button.. and I don't like iOS.
Not to start a war lol, but that is my opinion. I respect your opinion if you're a mac freak lol. I don't HATE Mac, I just don't prefer to own one..also they are too expensive for me, even the student discount.

Oh no no, You obviously didn't look through all of my gallery lol, I totally agree with you about Macs, they're nice, but I hate them too
and then again, you have an m1530, I have an m1330, those things are ultra notorious, Im hoping to scrap mine rather soon... and you use all those functions on a laptop? funny... I do all that and more on my desktops lol.

lol
XD
I love my M1530.
I do alot with my laptop, but I was listing some features I use lol!
in my current situation, I can't use a desktop Computer. I need the Portability.
So I am planning to buy an ASUS N55SF or [relevant] in the summer time.
I don't want to hear about the desktop bullshit lol. I'm a laptop person, until I get my own place and stop moving about. Well, I am at my own place, but I'm not there all the time and I move about campus a lot and take my laptop :3
Its hard taking desktop and components around in a bag

that it is, that it is... but portability sacrafices true power... lol.
understandable though, but I know that I'll need some desktop power for what I want to major in...
but eh, im not there... just yet... I'll be in college later this year .. lol
but ya, my opinion of course... lol

lol true. You do sacrifice power for portability. though there are some laptops that are "gaming" laptops. they are nice..but not as equivalent as a desktop
when things settle down for me, I will build a desktop
I'm not there I will probably get an flat in a few years, so then I will build a desktop to store my photography, games, music and such. then keep a laptop for mobility needs
that is my plan

YAY! I'm not part of the "most people"! I have no Tablet
I'm going to get a XOOM, Galaxy Tab, or Kindle Fire...or something else...non-iPAD in the future. I currently have a Motorola Droid 2 Global..a trusty steed xD. I want to get a HTC phone or the Motorola Droid Razr. I have Verizon
They are the best where I live, also my dad gets a discount for life because he worked for a city governmental agency.

neat, but hey, don't let that experience stop you from buying dell, actually their dell Vostro desktop lines are REALLy nice , and I agree, my netbook that I use most the time is a toshiba, Toshiba does make excellent products, even though they come with a lot of crapware also :L

moral of the story is............never buy a dell

I didn't buy it sir, it already had issues anyways. And why shouldn't I? just because Dell has some lemons doesn't mean all their products are bad. The business computers I hear are actually VERY good.

dells are only as good as their warranty. anything that happens after warranty expires will cost you an arm and a leg. i agree about business line of notebooks and servers. you are obviously not dealing with a business notebook here.

yeah, hence why I only am willing to pay for a $400 or less laptop, since thats all the mobile computing power I need. and actually the business line of desktops are also nice, they just lack expandability, like most prebuilts.

you should be able to sell the good parts like keyboard, touchpad, cpu, ram, dvd drive, wifi card/antennas with wires, lcd hinges and all the plastic bezels seperately on ebay and use the money toward a new one. you have no idea how many people are looking for stuff like that. Also maybe the screen if you are sure there is nothing wrong with it even though you have no display. just look up the parts to see how much they are selling for on dell site and ebay and you can set similar prices. make the most out of that laptop and forget learning the hardware. you will learn enough by removing the parts and getting them ready for sale. insides of laptops change all the time so learning the hardware is a ongoing process. just use rubber gloves so you dont kill the parts with static.

true true... what I was planning was save the good parts and just recycle the rest. I actually have 2 jobs anyways. thx for the suggestion though!

hehe. im unemployed at the moment and thinking like one. either way keeping stuff that can be of use for someone doesnt make sense. i made a new years resolution to get rid of a lot of my computer junk. I been keeping that for way too long and dont really need it.

Sorry to hear that
and thats good, I'd do the same to the laptop, but I just need an anti-static place to store the memory and wireless card, then its good for recycling.

ya if you bought any parts in the past you should have gotten the shiny bags. if you threw them away then you can just put them anywhere away from electromagnetic sources like monitors and cellphones. they will get dusty but thats not a big problem.
