Description
i re-watched "The Lorax" last tuesday (no particular reason why, i just noticed it playing on tv). i saw the truffula trees and i thought to myself "why don't i try my hand at one?" so i did.i really liked the style of the truffula trees in the movie.Β
it was a pain in the butt finding a way to make hair particles curve like that. but i did it. and it looks amazing from all angles.Β
the tree itself uses 3 particle systems: 1 for the long curls, 1 for the short curls, ans the last is for the random strands sticking out near the tips
everything was rendered separately and then combined into one image (my computer couldn't handle it), but it was all rendered in cycles.
the single foreground tree took 2 hours and 30 minutes to render by itself. i then used that render as an image everywhere in the background on a particle system.
the grass around the tree took about 20 minutes.
the hills in the back also took about 20 minutes.

Thanks! i tried using the comb, but i'm not very good at it yet and it looked horrible. i actually ended up using a vortex force field in the center,Β it made the hairs curve perfectly.
