Description This was for my first DarkArt Contest on PSD-Tutorials.de.

The task was to imagine our future in 2050.

So here is my slightly abstract imagination, just interpret for yourself!

I must have processed a thousand stocks for this, hope I didnΒ΄t forget anyone.
So many thanks to all you wonderful stock providers!

Yeah, because Terry Pratchett was the first person to use the turtle allusion, let alone the OVERALL CONCEPT of something holding the world.

no but he was the one to use a turtle flying through space, on tv too i may say, but the idea shown in this image is different and i like it, but it looked terry pratchet inspired so i simple thought id mention it where the artist had not.

HumbleNewb In reply to lilith101z [2010-06-30 05:18:27 +0000 UTC]

That's irrelevant. It apparently didn't dawn on you that maybe cStrum's wasn't inspired by Pratchett's interpretation but by something else. Perhaps that is why it was not mentioned. YOU, as well as others it seems, may have made the connection to Pratchett and that's fine. But I doubt you were just merely "mentioning" this similarity on the account that the "artist had not," because you expressly stated that the four elephants were left out, and that the "idea has been done before," Ms. I-suppose-this-is-good-and-am-going-to-use-the-neutral-emote-to-show-my-lack-of-excitement.

lilith101z In reply to HumbleNewb [2010-06-30 17:44:38 +0000 UTC]

the mention of the elephants was in a mocking manor actually, and i used the neutral emote because i dont like to think that other artists are better than other so i dont say i love a piece of art simply because it looks good, even a childs scribble is art, because its an expression of emotion. so you see what im saying is that i use the neutral emote for every comment i make unless im posting on a friends to which i say i love it to make my friends feel better, trying to deduct how i fealt about the piece from my words alone, you need to be able to hear my voice and the emotion portayed for such a judgment.

HumbleNewb In reply to lilith101z [2010-06-30 18:54:11 +0000 UTC]

Of course it was mocking. [...i dont like to think that other artists are better than other...] Funny, coming from the person who directly said "... pratchets idea was BETTER." Listen, I could nitpick your comments all day, and within a reasonable margin of error, be accurate in judging your thoughts and feelings because you're easy to "scan" like a "bar-code." But that isn't my objective, and my point was thoroughly made with my first reply to you: to point out how silly it was for you to suggest that cStrum copied Pratchett, when Pratchett's idea itself is a copy. Thus is the Art World's nature - "a copy of a copy of a copy." Welcome to the World of Paradox if you haven't been sufficiently introduced before, Ms. Art Snob.

lilith101z In reply to HumbleNewb [2010-07-01 00:02:08 +0000 UTC]

I didnt claim it was a copy, and pratchets idea was better, his mind works like noone else, he sees the world differently, but i did not say he was a better artist just that the idea what better, not the image itself, and in all honestly you 'scanning me like a barcode' course you are, because your a master of deduction you can read stories inbetween the lines wrong, your just picking because you saw a chance to argue and took it, every peice of art will come with critisismyou dont have to be their sole defender, just because you enjoy trying to put people down by becoming a parot and then trying to turn words into weapons, if you really fealt the thought of being nice you would have actually kept your arrogant responce to yourself, in doing so allowing cStrum to defend their own feeling about thier own piece of art.
enjoy the small essay.

*sigh* Miss Retarded Art Snob, reading that absurd comment of yours gave me a migraine, rendering me completely unsure where to begin. And it takes a great deal of stupidity to leave me baffled. As stated, my goal was completed with my initial response. With that said, my interest ends with this comment. γ•γ‚ˆγͺら!

Hello there, thank you for your comments and for your little discussion here.

I really like it, when people are thinking about it. Thanks @HumbleNewb for defending my work

And @lilith101z, no problem for me, I dont feel offended, if you say, this idea is not a new one
Of course I knew the idea of something like a turtle is carrying the world on its back before. I think it was the history lessons in school, people used to think this was reality in the ancient past.
I never heard of Terry Pratchett before, maybe something I should read? Sounds really interesting ...

But the main intension of this work is not the turtle,it is just the setting to make it abstractly . As the title says, I made it for a contest, wich had the task to imagine the world in 2050.
What I a was aiming at, was the pollution and exhaustion of earth. Running out of water and cities drowning in mountains of waste. And this young couple stands for our children, who have to accept this inheritance.

Dear Christian:

It took me longer than expected to get back to your deviation, but now I'm here, enjoying your stunning work.

So, my impressions!
The turtle is fantastic. The shading and the way you positioned the stocks over and around her is impressive.
I really like the idea of a whole world on her, showing deserts, forests, mountains, cities, oceans, swamps, clouds and people. That is extremely original !!

The Aerial View placed on the side has a very special effect on the turtle body, resembling also veins of life.

The stock combination has been worked so well that I cannot see where one landscape "ends" and the next "starts", as in a real globe. Love the falling waterfalls and how you combined the beaches to create the effect (and that beautiful blue!)... and how the waterfalls fall into the clouds (waterfalls create myst and that same effect can be imagined here).

The buildings are a separate masterpiece. The selection and how you blended them together is an example of a magnificent and careful work of many, many hours and program expertise. You have even ruins there...! And the smoke coming out of the chimneys is the perfect effect to show that people are actually alive.

The couple... standing there alone... it's a scary feeling!
I'm not sure that their size is 100% accurate if you compare them with the buildings, but on the other hand, maybe your idea was to show a perspective of huge distance. I know that a smaller couple might have not be seen... but you'd like to evaluate that (and as usual, I am 100% open to hear back from you!).

I don't foresee our future in 2050 like this under any circumstance ()... but as a photomanipulation, this is by far one of the most excellent works I've seen, as I said before. It wowed me as your previous one did (the metal bird, remember ??) and I can't wait to see your next work.

So... my HONEST congratulations for providing this incredible and amazing work for us to see and enjoy... you are fantastic !!

Hello dear Manwathiell, thank you so much for your detailed comment!

ItΒ΄s always a pleasure to hear from you

First let me say, this was supposed to look kind of dark, since it was for the DarkArt contest. IΒ΄m not that pessimistic in reality.
But I surely donΒ΄t like mankinds current understanding of nature as a never ending ressource and garbage dump.

So this is about our tendency of making ourself the earth uninhabitable with more and more industry and waste. All that luxury we want to live with, doesnΒ΄t come from nowhere.
And there are still so many countries that will follow. There has to be a change in our attitudes or we all will live with our super-big-flatscreen-color-tv and internet-refrigerator in nothing but wasteland around some day.
You are right, the couple hasnΒ΄t the right size, but thatΒ΄s not important here , in this size you can see that they are still young, so maybe they can be our children, wandering about where nature is gone?

Thanks, Manwathiell, for your visit and for taking your time to have a deep look on this image, I really appreciate this!

Manwathiell In reply to cSturm [2009-10-05 00:28:16 +0000 UTC]

You are right there... we are going the wrong way in
how the world is NOT being cared for ..

I always think about our descendants... not my children,
because they are already 20 and 23, but maybe my grandchildren
or grand-grand children... what kind of world will THEY have ?

I wish we would all be more careful...
