yeah Golden was a one of a kind artist. those first twelve issues were especially classic 80s stuff. one of the most interesting aspects of the series was all the different artists that worked on it over the years and the politics behind the constant changes.

Comic book politics is the main reason WHY i decided NOT to go into comics! I don't want to be bothered with office bullshit, Drawing comics and meeting that deadline is hard enough! about Mike Golden he seems to be a big fan of Logan's Run as he referenced that film more than once(No surprise, Jenny Agutter was DA BOMB in her young days!) even did a short story for Marvel's old Bizarre Adventures mag based on LR! He tickled me how he'd draw people turning themselves around, just weird! I had a character i created for my old fanfic "DoomWatch Inc." named Princess Daliaha, she and her people are cyborgs living in a city deep within Pluto, her appearance is based on Princess Mari but she carries a large disc on her back she can fly through space on and use like a shield like Capt. America!

well in The Micronauts the body banks were in part about eternal youth for rich people which kinda ties into the Logan's Run theme so that makes sense although the body banks concept may be more Mantlo's idea and the Golden but there's no way to know for sure. talk about politics in the comic book if doesn't get any worse then when it comes to jim shooter. have a look at what i posted just last week romspaceknightart.blogspot.com…

Yes i know all about that dickweed Shooter, His only contribution was giving Chris Claremont the freedom to develop the X-men line into the success it is to this day! X-men remain the backbone of Marvels Universe, He knew a moneymaker when he saw it! The bad side, He was A DICK!!! in all the ways that matter(Ron Wilson should have clobbered the fool when he got him in a boxing ring back in the early 80's!) without Stan Lee to sit on him(Stan was his usual preening self running Marvel's animation studio and stuff)He pretty much did what he wanted, The failure of the New Universe line was Jim's death kneel though, that cost Marvel millions in lost sales though there were a couple of series i did like, (1) Psy-Force: a grimer, more flexable version of the X-Men/New Mutants coupled with Mark Texiera great drawings! (2) Nightmask was very interesting take on the Psycho/Supernatural line and was successfull enough to have a brief t.v. series!
To finish: Jim showed what a fool he was after he went through the trouble of having Chris kill Phoenix/Jean Grey, they turn around a few years later and BRING HER BACK! Ruining one of the greatest comic storylines ever written!
Its one of the reasons i DON'T take comicdom seriously anymore.

yeah i remember when i used to see all those back page advertisements for New Universe in the late 80s. but none of the titles or characters ever grabbed me at the time i should make a point of grabbing any New Universe titles when ever i run into them in those dollar boxes just to finally have a look at em in more detail.

I recommend Nightmask and Psy-Force, though i stopped buying it cause one of my fav characters, resident geek Michael Crawley was removed from the team! (Intolerable)but you may still like it, Kickers Inc. about a group of former Football players who become local hero/Troubleshooters was interesting and i just like Ron Wilsons artwork!
I think the best example of an alternate universe line was the late 90's Tangent series from D.C.! Three i liked in particular: 1) The Joker's Wild, with a female joker, not one but 3 of ém!(their good girls though! More like goverment gadflys and excellent artwork and oftimes down right funny how the writers turned the D.C. universe upside-down! Should have kept the Tangent universe going!
2)The Flash, A late teenage girl made of solid light(and her outrageous mother who dresses like a heroine, AND her father is a villian who pretends to be a good dad while secretly trying to capture his daughter for his shadow masters!
hes a screw-up though and NEVER catches her, AND SHE KNOWS WHAT HES up to! He screws up cause his heart isn't really into it deep down, She still loves him though, PS Her parents are divorced which adds to the maddness!
Great artwork and a really funny read!
3)Power Girl: a kind of living android created by Red Chinese agents, weird looking as all hell (think ultimate Anime doll complete with ribbons in her hair!)She manipulates energy fields and some control over molecules(like Cutey Honey) she can restore the dead for instance , pursued by the U.S. and Chinese goverments so shes a comic/ anime version of The Fugitive. Great artwork!

Crystar? Yeah i remember him, saw the toys too, but he wasn't something that i could get into, Sorry! Only three comics ruled my world during the 80's, The Avengers, The X-men and the New Mutants with occasional forays to Rom and The Incredible Hulk(the Mantlo/Sal B. Years) and John Byrne's run on the Fantastic Four. All Brilliant!
