Ikon is no ROM but I always felt she showed promise as a character. Could have been a great team up. Also, the first few pages of the ROM "the spaceknight" zero issue from IDW Publishing for Free Comic Book Day are now available for viewing. And not just that, you can also see some of the first ever art for the new MICRONAUTS series from IDW romspaceknightart.blogspot.com…and by the way don't be fooled by the cover art the real look that ROM will have fucken sucks!

Why? WHY? WHY!!!! can't Rom get ANY RESPECT?!! I saw that bullshit design, Like that actor said in John Carpenter's version of The Thing: "You've GOT to be FUCKING KIDDING!"

Carpenter's remake of The Thing is one of the best sci-fi horror movies of all time. as for Ikon, she's part of cosmic superhero group know as The Annihilators (Gladiator, Quasar, Ronan, Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill). beyond that your best bet to get more familiar with her as a character would be to do a Google image search with key words Ikon spaceknight there's actually a lot of cool clip art and what not for her that will turn up like this here on deviant art www.deviantart.com/art/Annihil… Ikon was one of the very few ROM related things marvel has come up with in the last 15 years that was worth the paper she was printed on her fighting along side ROM had he made a come up to marvel would have been awesome.
anyway, as far as IDW goes i don't know if you've gone to the blog in the past couple days but here's what i'm urging all ROM fans to do. maybe you prefer to contact them through twitter or farcebook but emailing is probably best. please send them a quick note expressing your displeasure. if there's any chance IDW will reverse course on this horrible design it's only gonna happen if they hear from the fans. all it takes is one simple sentence like "ROM, he looked good on the cover but the design on the inside was horrible". it can just be in the subject line alone and just hit the "send" button. please do it, it will only take a couple moments of your time but if enough people do it it might make a difference. but if the fans become lethargic and just bitch about the design among themselves on social media then ultimately a shitty looking ROM is gonna will be what they deserve because they didn't take it up with IDW when they had a chance.

Carpenter's The Thing was Da Bomb! but didn't catch on with folks much or film critics though all agreed the
SFX were AWESOME and hold up even today! 80's folks just didn't want a downer film concering its ending, the same reason Ridley Scott's Blade Runner flick fell but is now getting the kudos it deserves! I'll checkout the info on Ikon, thanks! and thanks for the leg up concerning IDW, They'll be hearing from ME soon enough

great movies not being a hit at the box office and only years later getting the props they deserve is more common then we know. two more good examples Office Space and The Big Lebowski.
and yeah please don't drop the ball with writing to IDW it's the best shot we have at getting them to do right by the old school fans.

Never seen Office Space, flix like that don't thrill me, but the Big Lebowski rocked! I've allways liked Jeff Bridges, I liked him in Tron and Tron Legacy, He did a good job in the True Grit remake and the wise choice of NOT trying to immitate John Wayne!

lovely. what i like in your art is that since it doesnt have forced proportions, they look journalistic, like a documentary, like in Watchmen, so they end up being more memorable.

Brigado amigo. Those were some interesting observations you made none of that ever occurred to me. But I'm glad you like it just the same and yes you were right I've never been big on forced proportions. Figure composition has always been very important to me.

I think the new design isn't so bad,the problem for me was the art itself looks wooden and uninspiring,lame compared to the impressive cover art.

i'm just the opposite, i'm fine with the art in general but as you know i hate the new design it looks clunky like some kinda mechanical Frankenstein. in fact, if you take away any design similarity he has to the original ROM in the chest plate he looks like a completely different character. if that was a new look for the latest sentinel robots in the X-Men that would look fine but that's just not ROM to me. they had a good thing going on the cover with ROM basically looking the same but just with a rounder head and fingers now and a couple of minor changes to the details of his armor but then the geniuses at IDW had to go fuck with the design even more and make him look stupid. well my friend just like with ditko i'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree but thanks for your input. i've completely given up on the hope any publisher out there will ever do justice to this great character i just don't want to pay attention to it all any more i'm done with the blogging and fan art for the foreseeable future.

Sorry to hear you so disappointed friend,I don't want to pass final judgement yet, let's see it published to get a clearer view. Remember even in the original series Sal made tweaks in Rom's armor in the first couple issues, so lets hope they revert to the cover art version as this one looks too 'robotic' as you said.For sure the classic design is much superior even with the mittens.

what they did on the cover qualifies as tweaks to the armor but the inside is complete bullshit. the view on page 3 is plenty clear it doesn't leave anything to the imagination. this is what Rom fans are gonna get if they just "wait and see" like everyone keeps saying instead of writing to IDW now and letting them know how you feel about the knew design. i already wrote to them but i'm just one person they won't do anything unless maybe a lot of people write to them about their disapproval. i've talked to other long time Rom fans out there who aren't crazy about the look but they won't bother to write a quick email to IDW which is really annoying. i mean we've been waiting for a Rom come back for how many years now? the zero issue is still more then 3 months away but we already know Rom will look like shit and every body wants to still just "wait and see" or like you said "not pass final judgement". that just doesn't make any sense to me.

Just checked your talk with the cover artist,and it seems there's a bit of a creative confusion there; I'll guess there're guidelines from Hasbro also for the prospect of manufacturing an action figure.

dear god i hadn't even thought of that. the possibility of hasbro making a figure that looks like that thing on page 3. as if that heromugg wasn't stupid enough. i tell ya, the comic book industry just isn't for me any more. only some of the movies are worth my time and money but as far as the books go, no way. it's still kinda early in the morning here i think i need to go back to bed and get some more sleep, have a nice weekend.

I just read and saw your latest blog, let me say in one word... AWESOME!!! And while you are right about the new design for Rom, and it does make me question the new series, but I can't be to quick to judge. We'll just wait until it's released to give our opinions on the new book series.

i think if this new series ends up being a real disappointment i'm gonna pretty much walk away from the whole comic scene both in the real world and in cyber space. marvel has been nothing but disappointing to especially when it comes to anything ROM related. same goes for DC and their relaunch which screwed up my all time favorite title their to which is the Suicide Squad. the new Suicide Squad movie doesn't look especially promising either i have a Suicide Squad blog as well that used to be pretty hot like the ROM blog currently is. but my disinterest in blogging about the movie or the current DC series all but brought all the traffic over there to a dead stop. so these days i post something there once a month or so if something cool happens to come way and don't really pay much attention to what goes on there in between posts. if the new IDW series sucks i will have become thoroughly disillusioned with the state of the comic book industry.

Speaking of movies, I read online that they want to a movies for G.I. Joe, Rom, Micronauts, Visionaries: Knights of the Light, and M.A.S.K. set in the same universe as each other. As screwed up as that may sound, at least it's not in the same universe as the Bayformers, and it's a little nice they want to make a movie about Rom at all.
And try to hang in there, you'll always have the classic Rom.
