In doing this particular work, I actually had two false starts; it was originally to be in color, and of a more realistic style. But I just couldn't get inspired by anything I did in those two previous versions. It wasn't until I switched to black and white and started doing it in a broad cartoon style that it started to click.

Still. just how cartoonlike I was going to go was still up in the air. Going in an EC-horror-comics style was too little, and going full Max-and-Dave-Fleischer was too much. Fortunately, I found a middle ground, but chose to retain the Betty-Boop-esque victim on the lab table.
