Description
I hate wasps, ever since i got stung by one on the back of the neck, i've waged war against them. However the war took a turn today, which im not entirely proud of. I used chemical warfare to neutralise this beast and as it was laying there writhing in agony, I felt quite ashamed of what I did. So next time I kill one, I'll revert back to using conventional methods (fire, newspapers and flat objects).Related content

Wasps 'n' Craneflies are darned annoying. They freak me out.
And generally how even when an insect is cut in half they continue to walk towards you....not that I like to cut insects in half

Dude, that was funny. Macabre and sad, but very, very funny. How do you torch a wasp?

The image is very powerful, actually, especially when you give it the title you have. Makes a strong statement. The focus is great...an awesome photograph!
So sad that it had a slow and painful death...yeah, newspapers and other objects would do better for next time. I don't mind them unless they sting, which by the way, once I got stung by two at the same time on my head! Ugly situation it was...

Like I said, the piece was powerful, so it spoke for itself.
Ahh, my hero, revenge on my behalf, with newspapers naturally, I thank you kind sir ;D

Gah.. it is just too early for those lil buggers to be out and about. That's the one thing I don't like about summer.. all the little creepy crawlies come out of hiding. However - great photo!! The close up and story to go with it really makes one step back and take a look at the bigger picture of life. I think that your actions reflect various actions around the world on several different scales. An interesting concept - all posed by one little bee. Wonderful work!

Spray just sucks.
I'm a bit scared of wasps too. Though I have to admit that I deserved 4 out of the 5 stings I've received so far, because I accidentally stepped, knelt, sat etc on them.
The white background is nice, it brings out the shadow quite well too. I don't like seeing it dead or half-dead though.

Medic!
We have an insect down under enemy fire - be careful - the enemy is using chemical warfare!
... despite the theme of death its quite a humorous picture

That is...a very theatrical death.
I had two very inappropriate thoughts when I first saw this image. The first one was that this picture looks almost dirty. Yeah.
The second was that it almost looks like he's saying, 'Look, Ma - no hands!'

i like wasps. well, only if i don't get stung. usually i kill them after letting them entertain me with some stunts heh.
it looks like the wasp is laughing it's ass off like 'bwhahahah look at this stupid guy i can't fly no more cuz of the laugh!!!'

Y'know, I've felt the same way. When I was a kid, I was working in my coloring book. And I felt this weird sensation on my neck. And then a sharp sting. A wasp had crawled into my shirt and stung me on the back of the neck. Unprovoked! So I hate the things too. Great detail on this shot! Little hairs and the like. It looks almost like he's in a softbox.

macro's are so interesting, u get to see details you'd never see with the naked eye. i think everyone has had a run-in with a wasp and as such im not worried about killing hundreds of them

i'm terrified of wasps, but i don't like watching them die from insecticide either. seems overly horrific. but then i feel kinda guilty squishing mosquitoes, also.
every time i see a wasp i think of this time i was studying near a fountain with a pool. there was a wasp floundering on it's back on top of the water. it couldn't get it's wings and antennae out of the pool. i thought about trying to turn it over, but was too afraid i'd get stung by it. then another wasp showed up and started flying at the one in the water. it kept making passes (4 i think) until it flipped the one in the water over. once flipped, the first wasp floated on the surface until it dried a little, then flew away.

i've never seen them act nice before, i always thought they attacked everything and each other. mosquitoes spread disease, so i have no problems killing them.

me neither. that's why i found it so interesting. of course for all i know, the flying wasp was trying to kill to kill the one in the water. and still kill mosquitoes, i just don't feel good about it

lol, nice shot. I too have a vandetta against the little bastards. My trip to Alton Towers (eternal home of the wasps) was spoiled a few years back to due some little bastard stinging me on the neck (near where you find a pulse) bloody sore it was. I love spraying them until the stuff foams up on them and they die. I fed one to a spider once and took I have also donned my Dads 'midge hat' and took a blowtorch to a nest I found way up the back of the garden. They have much to answer for!
By the way, if you don't know what a midge is, do a google search for 'Scottish Midge' - they are 10 times worse and attack in hefty numbers!

Yer, the exposure was a pain, i took it in sunlight and was having trouble with the autoexposure.
I dont like killing things in that manner, the chemical nerve agent readily available at most stores is an unfair and unatural advantage. and its immoral. but other than that, im indifferent
