Another ridiculously long tutorial ...Note - if you now rush to do some painting and realize that your colors don't show the same as mine
remember that it's high quality colors I'm working with - they are vibrant, deep and rich, hence the colors on paper won't loose their brightness once they dry.
So I advice you to invest in good set of watercolors - they don't grow old and the outcome is way better than with cheaper colors :3
And once again - scanners are killers!
The photographs of this tutorial are way closer to what the picture looks in real life.

Definitely going to try to use more wet on dry with watercolor paintings. I usually use a lot of wet on wet because I love how the colors mix with that technique, but let's see how it works with more wet on dry!

I took a watercolor class in school, but I never really decided which art I wanted to focus on, so I don't do any until I get the urge for it again.

This is fantastic. I was so hoping you'd do a tutorial on watercolors since your watercolor works always come out so beautiful. I've been itching to do watercolors myself since it's such a pretty medium, but it always comes out terrible because of how many things I was unaware of (like holy cow the taping down all sides part, I can't count how many watercolor pieces I've done are destroyed because of not knowing about that part).
Thank you so much for this super helpful tutorial! Now I'm itching to give it a try with the watercolors my grandma sent me a while back! X3

You are a LIFESAVER. I haven't been wanting to tape my paper down because I didn't want to damage it, and I don't know why making it less sticky didn't occur to me!
Also, I definitely appreciate your advice on how to do all the shadows and highlights.

I gotta say - scanners always do that! >.< The photographed pictures are way closer to how the picture looks in real life. yet in some pictures the colors were still wet - and watercolors always turn more lighter once is dries.
